Bobcats Top UConn in Nutmeg Classic First Round
11/24/2023 9:00:00 PM | Women's Ice Hockey
HAMILTON, N.Y. — The No. 7/9 Quinnipiac women's ice hockey team topped No. 11 UConn 4-2 in the first game of the Nutmeg Classic on Friday, Nov. 24.
The Bobcats got the scoring started in the first when Julia Nearis cut to the middle and fired a wrister past the UConn goalie.
UConn scored two goals in a span of 50 seconds just over halfway through the second period to take the lead.
That lead wouldn't last long as a Kendall Cooper shot was deflected in off a UConn stick just under minute after the second UConn goal.
After skating even for most of the third period, Julia Nearis found the back of the net again on a wrist shot from the slot.
Nina Steigauf would add some insurance with a tip-in goal in front to push the lead to two.
Logan Angers made 32 saves in the game to keep the Bobcats ahead.
STATS AND NOTES
The Bobcats return to the ice tomorrow to face No. 13/12 Yale in the Nutmeg Classic Championship at Ingalls Rink in New Haven, Conn. Puck drop is set 6:00 PM.
