HAMDEN, Conn. — A pre-Thanksgiving showdown awaits in Boston, as the No. 3 Quinnipiac University men's ice hockey team takes on No. 5 Boston University at Agganis Arena in a matchup of two Frozen Four participants from a season ago.
Both teams come in red-hot, as the Bobcats have won their last five and are unbeaten in seven straight, while the Terriers have won four consecutive contests and have just one loss in their last nine appearances.
BATTLE IN BEANTOWN
- Two of the nation's best will battle in a pre-Thanksgiving affair on Wednesday night at Agganis Arena. Quinnipiac enters the matchup No. 3 in both the USCHO and USA Hockey/The Rink Live polls, while Boston University sits No. 5 in both rankings.
- The 2023 Frozen Four participants top the Pairwise rankings, however, with the Bobcats at the top and the Terriers one spot below.
- The Bobcats have been dominating in the third period this season, outscoring their opposition by a 23-4 margin in the final 20 minutes of play.
- They have put up a pair of four-spots in the final frame, tallying that number in a 5-2 win at New Hampshire on Oct. 21 and, most recently, a 6-0 win at Harvard on Nov. 4.
- The 23 goals in the frame have come from 12 different scorers, with first-year Mason Marcellus recording six of his eight goals on the year in the final frame.
- Quinnipiac has started to find its form with the man advantage, scoring nine power play goals in the last five games after tallying three in the first eight of the campaign.
- The Bobcats are nine for their last 18 with the advantage, currently converting on a 21.8 percent clip on the season. That mark is third in the ECAC and 18th in the country.
- Unbeaten in their last seven contests, the Bobcats have found a groove as the calendar heads towards the holiday season, winning its last five games on home ice and posting a 6-0-1 record overall during that stretch.
- During that span, Quinnipiac is outscoring opponents 37-14 and outshooting them 274-155, while giving teams just 23 shots on 21 power play attempts against.
- During that seven-game stretch, Jacob Quillan has recorded 12 points with six goals and six assists, while Collin Graf and Jayden Lee have each chipped in 10.
- After tying the program's points record a season ago, junior Collin Graf is back again on a red-hot offensive pace in the first two months of the season.
- He currently has 16 points, with seven goals and nine assists on the year and has recorded at least one point in every full game he has played this season.
- The last person to average 2.00 points per game over a non-shortened season is Boston College's Johnny Gaudreau, who hit that number on the dot in the 2013-14 season.
