Quinnipiac Updates Soccer & Lacrosse Surface
"We are thrilled to complete this project at our soccer and lacrosse stadium," said Mecca. "This project will allow our student-athletes to continue to train at the highest level during all seasons as they continue to compete for championships."
Quinnipiac University recently underwent a renovation of the existing synthetic turf system at the Soccer & Lacrosse Complex. It was of the utmost importance to the University that the new system improve the drainage of the field while also keeping in the spirit of environmental sensitivity of the surrounding areas and maintaining safety of the student athletes.
The new synthetic turf system makes use of a FieldTurf FTRV360-2 turf system above a 'Versatile Pad'. The new pad increases the drainage of the field to accommodate over 4,000 cubic feet of storm water volume before being infiltrated and recharged into the groundwater. This allows for the field to drain appropriately and to also significantly decrease the instances of freezing during the playing season. This new product also maintains all the safety standards for the student athletes.
The field was scheduled to take approximately 3 months to be removed and replaced. With the support of the University staff and the additionally efforts of the FieldTurf crews, the field was able to be removed, field regraded, pad installed and turf installed in just over 1 month.
Project updates included:- Added stone to needed places
- Replaced the Brockpad with Versatile Hinged Shock Tile.
- Installed new turf
- Added sand and EPDM (ethylene propylene diene monomer)
- Removing the drain separating the two different types of turf
- Changing out the blue turf along the sideline and adding in Versatile Hinged shock tile with a longer fiber blue turf.
"We are extremely excited for the renovations to our turf facility," said head men's lacrosse coach Mason Poli. "As a school in New England, battling the winter conditions at the start of our season has been a challenge. This new project will allow us to hit the ground running in January. It will also provide us the opportunity to schedule more home games and showcase our beautiful facility."
