Senior Wins Major League Award After Stellar Season
Metsa led a defensive unit that put together one of the best seasons in the history of NCAA Hockey, smashing the single-season shutout record with 16 blank sheets as a team. Metsa and the Bobcats led both the league and the nation in scoring defense, allowing just 0.93 goals per-game in 2021-22. The senior blocked 24 shots, and led the team in the regular season with 34 points, 16 of which came in league play.
The senior added an assist to his totals last night in the team's first postseason game, a 4-1 win over eighth-seeded St. Lawrence.
Metsa becomes just the second player in Quinnipiac history to win the award, joining Zach Davies who won the award in 2013.
Quinnipiac has clinched the #1 overall seed in the ECAC Hockey Tournament and holds a 1-0 lead in the ECAC Hockey Quarterfinals series against St. Lawrence. The Bobcats can sweep the series and advance to ECAC Championship weekend in Lake Placid with a victory tonight at the People's United Center.
