Former Bobcat Student-Athlete & Coach Takes Over as First-Ever Head Coach

AUSTIN, Texas – Former Quinnipiac men's soccer student-athlete and coach Brett Uttley has been named the first-ever Head Coach of Austin FC II – the Club's new MLS NEXT Pro team.
Uttley played for Head Coach Eric Da Costa and the Bobcats from 2008-11. He made six starts and played in seven total games in 2009 as a sophomore, recording one goal and one assist for three total points. He then played in 12 games and made three starts in 2010, and played in 13 games while making 10 starts as a senior in 2012.
He graduated from Quinnipiac with a Bachelor of Arts in Public Relations in May of 2012, and played one full graduate season at Rhode Island in 2012. Uttley went on to play one year of professional soccer in Sweden for Lidkopings FK.

Austin FC II is set to begin competing in 2023. Uttley holds both a UEFA A License and a UEFA Elite Youth A License from the Welsh Football Association, and most recently served as an assistant coach at Inter Miami CF.
Launched in March 2022 by Major League Soccer, MLS NEXT Pro is a professional men's soccer league in the United States and Canada that completes the pro player pathway from MLS NEXT, the youth academies associated with MLS clubs, through to MLS itself. 28 teams, including Austin FC II, are set to compete in the league next season.
Uttley began his coaching career as an assistant coach at Quinnipiac University in 2014, and joined Seattle Sounders FC in 2016 where he served as both an academy and a fitness coach. He later spent three (3) seasons as first assistant coach of Rio Grande Valley FC, then the USL Championship affiliate of Houston Dynamo FC.
