Bobcats Improve to 7-0 in 2022-23
LAVAL, QUEBEC – Quinnipiac men's basketball earned its seventh consecutive win to begin the 2022-23 season on Saturday, downing Montana State by the final score of 70-53 at Place Bell Arena in The Northern Classic.
The Bobcats outscored Montana State 44-29 in the second half of action. Quinnipiac shot 16-of-33 (48.5%) from the floor in the second half, and went 6-for-12 from distance over the final 20 minutes.
Dezi Jones (16 points, 7 rebounds, 3 assists), Matt Balanc (15 points, 5 rebounds) and Luis Kortright (13 points, 6 rebounds, 4 assists) all recorded double-digit scoring nights to lead the way for QU.
QU moves to 7-0 for the first time since 1969-70 – when the Bobcats won eight straight contests to start the year.

- QU outrebounded Montana State 47-34. The Bobcats grabbed 14 offensive rebounds, the team's fifth game of the season thus far with 10+ offensive boards.
- Points in the paint were even (30-30), as well as team turnovers (13-13).
- Dezi Jones paced the Bobcats offensively with 16 points on 6-of-8 shooting. Jones went 4-for-4 from behind the 3-point line, becoming the second QU player to post a perfect shooting night from behind the arc (minimum 4 attempts). Matt Balanc went 5-for-5 from distance against Albertus Magnus on Nov. 18.
- Matt Balanc chipped in with 15 points and five rebounds. Balanc has five games with double-digit scoring totals this year.
- Luis Kortright stuffed the stat sheet with 13 points, six rebounds and four assists. Kortright finished a team-best +18 while on the floor in 26 minutes.
- Paul Otieno added eight points and eight rebounds – just one day after his first collegiate double-double. He's averaging 8.3 PPG/7.4 RPG in his first year at QU.
- Quinnipiac's win is its first-ever vs. Montana State. The all-time series is now tied 1-1.
- The Bobcats return to action tomorrow (Sunday, Nov. 27) for the third and final day of The Northern Classic. Quinnipiac and Hofstra will square off at 7:00 PM from Place Bell Arena to finish off the tournament.
