Girard '21 Selected First Overall in 2021 NWHL Draft

BROOKLYN, N.Y. - Former women's ice hockey forward Taylor Girard '21 was selected first overall by the Connecticut Whale in the 2021 NWHL Draft on Tuesday, June 29. Girard is the first women's ice hockey alumna to be selected as the first overall pick in a professional draft.
The Macomb, Mich., native finished her senior season as a Bobcat ranked second on the team with 16 points on seven goals and nine assists. After transferring from Lindenwood, Girard finished her collegiate career with 69 points on 32 goals and 37 assists. She recorded a +7 on-ice rating with one game-winning goal during the 2020-21 season.
Girard will reunite with Abbie Ives and join Melissa Samoskevich, Kenzie Lancaster and Elena Orlando as teammates on the Whale. In addition, five other Quinnipiac alumnae will compete against the Whale in the NWHL - Kelly Babstock (Metropolitan Riveters), Emma Woods, Emma Greco, Shiann Darkangelo and Sarah-Eve Coutu-Godbout (all players for the Toronto Six).

"First, I'd love to thank my parents, coaches and teammates for pushing me on and off the ice and helping me get to this point," Girard said. "Being drafted by the Whale is such an honor! They have a great organization. I'm excited to get to Connecticut and meet all the players and staff and get the season started."
