Bobcats Shine at Yale Season Opener

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - The Quinnipiac women's indoor track & field had a stellar day at the 2021 Yale Season Opener at Coxe Cage in New Haven. Six different Bobcats recorded career-best marks, and senior Symone Foster won her second 60m hurdle event in back-to-back meets. Alyssa Romagnoli also won the 300m dash, and graduate student Mikah Maples had a season-best throw in the shot put and a career-best toss in the weight throw. In addition, Britney Del Mundo tallied a first-place finish in the triple jump (11.52m).
Quinnipiac competed alongside Columbia, Hartford, New Haven, Sacred Heart, Southern Connecticut State and Yale. The Bobcats recorded three first place finishes and the Bulldogs led the way with seven individual first place finsihes.

- Senior Symone Foster won her second 60m hurdle event in the two meets with a time of 8.69, which is .03 milliseconds off her career-best time. Senior Kalli'ana Botelho took second in the 60m hurdle preliminary race with a time of 8.72, which was a career-best time for the senior, but she did not race in the final. Both Foster and Botelho hold two of the top three program times in the 60m hurdle event.
- Alyssa Romagnoli took first place in the 300m dash with a time of 40.93, which is just shy of her career-best (39.75 - Dec. 4, 2021). Romagnoli now holds two of the best times in the Bobcats' top ten records list in the 300m event. First-year Rylie Smith finished ninth in the same event with a time of 43.22.
- In the 60m dash, senior Aisha Gay and graduate student Britney Del Mundo both qualified for the finals with fourth and fifth place finishes in the preliminary race, respectively. Gay recorded a time of 7.86 in the preliminary race, which was a career-best, and then she beat her own time in the finals with a time of 7.81, finishing third overall. Del Mundo also notched a career-best time in the preliminary race (7.89), and beat her own time again in the finals, finishing sixth with a new career-best time of 7.88. Sophomore Hayden Robinson took 16th in the preliminary race (8.16), followed by first-year Hailey Tolson in 20th (8.24) and junior Jordan Mayo taking 23rd (8.38).
- Sophomore Eileen Donovan finished fifth overall in the 500m dash with a time of 1:21.66.
- Two Bobcats ran in the 800m event. Asia Mercier finished in second overall with a time of 2:19.18, which is a personal best. Brooke Hagen was not far behind in third place with a time of 2:20.50.
- In the 1 mile run, first-year Ana Caliri took 12th with a time of 5:37.88.
- Mia Pestle took fifth overall in the 3000m run (10:31.89). Katie Bradley was not far behind in seventh place with a time of 10:56.49, which is a new personal best for the senior by over seven seconds. Samantha Leal took 14th place with a time of 11:46.46.
- The 4x400m relay team of Romagnoli, Donovan, Smith and Gay took second to lead the Bobcats with a time of 3:52.54.
- Graduate student Mikah Maples recorded a season-best throw in the shot put, tallying a third place finish in the finals (12.88m). Maples also recorded a seventh place finish in the weight throw with a 13.46m mark, which is a new career-best.
- In the triple jump, graduate student Britney Del Mundo took first overall with an 11.52m leap. Del Mundo's mark from today is ranked second in the program's top ten marks. Sophomore Zekiah Lewis recorded a 10.82m leap, taking fourth overall. First-year Olaitan Olagundoye tallied a seventh place finish with a 10.58m mark. First-year Grace Davis finished in 13th overall with a 9.96m leap.
- The Bobcats held four of the top six spots in the long jump final. Senior Kalli'ana Botelho lead the team with a second place finish (5.34m). Lewis took third with a 5.33m leap, falling just short of her personal best. Del Mundo recorded a 5.19m jump, taking fifth in the finals. Sophomore Camille Sweet tallied a 5.18m mark and finished behind Del Mundo in sixth.
- Botelho also led the Bobcats in the high jump with a second place finish on a 1.64m jump. Olagundoye finished in fourth place in the long jump, notching a 1.55m mark. Sophomore Kalleen Ozanic placed fifth in the finals reaching 1.50m, along with Davis, who also reached 1.50m.
- First-year Hannah Sumby placed fifth in the pole vault, recording a 3.00m mark, which is a season-best.
- The Bobcats will have a long break before competing again on Jan. 15 at the URI Invitational.
