Israel-Native to Join Bobcats in Fall 2020
HAMDEN, Conn. – The Quinnipiac men's soccer program and head coach Eric Da Costa have received a commitment from defender Rom Wasserman, as announced on Tuesday, June 9, 2020.
Wasserman – a Tel Aviv, Israel-native – will join the Bobcats in the fall of 2020 and is immediately eligible.
"Rom is going to make a great addition to our family," Da Costa said. "He has a terrific attitude and a winning mentality. As a defender he will add quality to our already talented defensive core. His workman-like attitude will complement our defensive mindset and add value to our team. I very much look forward to welcoming Rom and his family this coming fall."
The 5-foot-7 defender most recently played for the Hapoel Ramat club (2016-17, 2017-18, 2018-19), an Israeli club from Ramat Gan and Givatayim. He helped lead the club to a first place finish in the South Division in 2017-18, then played in the National Youth Division in 2018-19.
"I am thrilled to make my commitment to Quinnipiac," Wasserman said. "I am looking forward to beginning the next step in my life, and I know that Quinnipiac is the perfect place to do so. I dedicate myself to giving 100 percent in every training session and match, and I look forward to helping the team achieve its goals."
Wasserman also played for Maccabi Tel Aviv, joining the club in 2008-09. He played eight full seasons with Maccabi Tel Aviv, winning a national championship in both 2014-15 (U-16 National Division) and in 2015-16 (U-17 National Division). He also helped the club finish in first place in the Junior National A Division back in 2009-10.
"Quinnipiac is a special place that challenges you to be the best person you can be," Wasserman continued. "I sensed from the beginning that this place has a winning mentality, and I am determined to help the team push forward."
