Bobcats Netminder Makes 30 Saves to Cap Off Weekend Sweep in Key League Weekend
HAMDEN, Conn. – Wyatt Bongiovanni (Birmingham, Michigan) scored the game-winning goal early in the third period and Keith Petruzzelli (Wilbraham, Massachusetts) finished off the weekend sweep with 30 saves as the No. 18 Quinnipiac men's ice hockey took down the Colgate Raiders, 2-1.
Quinnipiac moved into a tied for third in ECAC Hockey with the weekend sweep of No. 1 Cornell and Colgate, as well as moving up to No. 13 in the Pairwise rankings.
Both teams skated to a scoreless tie through the first period of play as Petruzzelli and Colgate goaltender Andrew Farrier made several great saves, while Petruzzelli led the way with 12 in the period.
Peter DiLiberatore (Bedford, Nova Scotia) broke the scoreless tie near the midway point of the second period as he blasted a power-play goal just past Farrier for his fifth tally of the season but the Raiders answered in the closing seconds of the period as Tyler Jeanson scored off a rebound on the rush.
Bongiovanni roofed home the game-winner just 17 seconds into the third period for his 13th goal of the season, moving back into a tie for the ECAC Hockey lead. After Bongiovanni's goal, Petruzzelli locked down the win with 10 saves in the final frame.

SCORING SUMMARY
- (7:04, 2nd period - PP) – Quinnipiac 1, Colgate 0: DiLiberatore broke the scoreless tie with 12:56 left in the second period as he rifled a one-timer off a pass from Alex Whelan (Ramsey, New Jersey) that trickled through the legs of Andrew Farrier and across the line as he tried to squeeze the puck between his skates.
- (19:47.4, 2nd period) – Quinnipiac 1, Colgate 1: The Raiders tied the game on a rush with just 12.6 seconds left in the period as John Snodgrass slid a pass from Trevor Cosgrove that was saved by Petruzzelli but Tyler Jeanson was there to clean up the rebound.
- (00:17, 3rd period) – Quinnipiac 2, Colgate 1: Ethan de Jong (North Vancouver, British Columbia) skated up the right boards and hit Tufto with a pass near the blue line. Tufto sent the puck to the left corner where Bongiovanni skated in and roofed the puck past Farrier to break the tie just 17 seconds into the third period.
- Bongiovanni's goal was his 13th of the season as he moved into a tie with Harvard's Jack Drury and Yale's Curtis Hall for the most goals in ECAC Hockey
- Bongiovanni now has 20 points on the season, good for his second straight season with 20-plus points.
- DiLiberatore scored his fifth goal of the season with a power-play tally in the second period to give him points in back-to-back games this weekend.
- Petruzzelli picked up back-to-back wins this weekend and closed it out with a 30-save performance against the Raiders, improving to 2-1-0 when he makes 30-plus saves this season.
- He allowed just one goal this weekend, good for a .981 save percentage and a 0.50 GAA.
- Tufto assisted both goals to give him points in four of his last five games and nine of his last 11.
- With his two-assist night, Tufto now has eight multi-assist game and nine multi-point games this season
- He leads ECAC Hockey with 26 assists and moved into a tied for the league-lead with 29 points with Harvard's Casey Dornbach and Clarkson's Haralds Egle.
- Whelan recorded points for the second straight night with an assist on DiLiberatore's power-play tally for his seventh helper of the season and 16th point
- de Jong also recorded a point for a second straight night to up his point total to 15 points as he became the fifth Bobcat with 10-plus assists this season.
- The Bobcats hit the road once again for the first full weekend of February as they travel to Yale Friday night to take on the Bulldogs at Ingalls Rink before another day trip to Brown Saturday night to face the Bears at Meehan Auditorium at 7 p.m.
