Maher '18 Named to USA Women's Sevens End of Year Exhibition Match

Former Bobcat Rugby Standout Continues to Represent Her Country
CHULA VISTA, Calif. – Former Quinnipiac women's rugby player Ilona Maher '18 has been chosen to represent the United States once again. She will participate in the USA Women's Sevens end of year intrasquad exhibition match, as announced by USA Rugby this week.
The match will take place on Friday, Dec. 5 at 12:30 p.m. pacific time (3:30 p.m. ET) and will be free to watch on USA Rugby's Facebook page.
Maher will be one of eight players on the USA Stars team, who will take on the nine players of the USA Stripes squad.
This exhibition match is the culmination of the team's training 'bubble,' which was established back in mid-August due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Burlington, Vt. native has made 12 appearances in HSBC Tournaments for her country, and continues to be a mainstay in the USA Rugby scene.
A three-time NIRA All-American at Quinnipiac, Maher earned the MA Sorensen Award as the top player in collegiate rugby as a junior in 2016-17. Maher was also named the Quinnipiac Female Athlete of the Year at the athletic department's senior awards banquet in May 2018.
