Bobcats Look to Continue Winning Ways in First Weekend of 2020 Calendar Year

HAMDEN, Conn. – The Quinnipiac men's ice hockey team kicks off the 2020 portion of its season this weekend as the Bobcats continue a three-game homestand Frank Perrotti Jr. Arena against the No. 16/15 Harvard Crimson and the Dartmouth Big Green.
Last Time Out
Quinnipiac swept Princeton last weekend and are riding a three-game winning streak heading into the weekend series against the Crimson and Big Green. Wyatt Bongiovanni scored the game-winning goal with 1:26 remaining in the third period Sunday night to cap off a two-goal weekend while Odeen Tufto recorded his 100th career point.
Scouting Harvard
After starting the season 6-0, the Crimson have gone 1-4-1 in their last six games to come into the weekend with a 7-4-1 record overall. Harvard remains one of the top teams in ECAC Hockey as their 6-2-0 record is good for second in the league. Six members of the Crimson have recorded 10 or more points led by Casey Dornbach's seven goals, 10 assists and 17 points. First year Nick Abruzzese has six goals and nine assists while six more Crimson have scored four goals. Mitchell Gibson has made eight starts this season, including four straight, and owns a 4-2-1 record with a 2.28 GAA and .931 save percentage.
All-Time vs. Harvard
Quinnipiac comes into the weekend with a 14-16-6 against Harvard dating back to when the Bobcats joined ECAC Hockey for the 2005-06 season. The Bobcats have lost back-to-back games against the Crimson and are just 1-5-1 in the last seven meetings between the two teams. Quinnipiac is looking for its first home win against Harvard since Nov. 12, 2016.
Scouting Dartmouth
The Big Green have been among the best ECAC Hockey teams this weekend as well, sporting a 6-4-2 record and 4-2-1 record in league play. Last weekend, Dartmouth defeated Colorado College and UConn to win their own Ledyard Classic. Drew O'Connor has continued his impressive scoring from his first season as he leads the team with seven goals, eight assists and 15 points. Quin Foreman and Matt Baker each have five goals while three more Dartmouth skaters have scored four goals. Adrian Clark has started 11 of Dartmouth's 12 games this season, sporting a 6-3-2 record with a 2.76 GAA and .911 save percentage. The Big Green have been solid on the power play at 23.7 percent, scoring nine goals.
All-Time vs. Dartmouth
The Bobcats and Big Green skated to a 2-2 tie last time out at Thompson Arena after splitting last season's series. Quinnipiac owns a 21-10-3 all-time record against Dartmouth in 34 meetings and is 11-0-1 in its last 12 home games against the Big Green.
Weekly Awards
First year Jayden Lee won his first-ever ECAC Hockey Rookie of the Week Award this week after recording his first career goal. Lee is the second Bobcat to win rookie of the week this season after Skyler Brind'Amour on Dec. 2 and is the third Bobcat to win a weekly award this season.
Rand's Winning Ways
Head coach Rand Pecknold continues to approach milestone wins in his career. In addition to having 520 wins to rank 13th all-time among Division I Men's Hockey coaches, he is just 7 wins from passing former men's and women's tennis head coach Mike Quitko for the most wins by a coach in Quinnipiac Athletics history. Pecknold and Quitko are the only two Quinnipiac coaches to record 500 wins with Quinnipiac programs.
100-Point Club
Odeen Tufto became the 41st player in program history to record 100 points as he picked up two points Sunday night. Tufto is the third Bobcat in the last three seasons to reach the 100-point mark after Landon Smith '18 in 2017-18 and Chase Priskie last season. Tufto is also the first junior in NCAA Men's Ice Hockey to reach the 100-point mark as a junior this season as he reached it in 93 games and is the first junior at Quinnipiac since Sam Anas reached the mark in 92 games played. Overall, Tufto is the 11th Bobcat to join the 100-point club as a junior and 13th to do so before his senior year.
