BERKELEY, Calif. – Freshman Olivia Howard (Clifton Park, New York) scored her first goal and goalkeeper Mack Vorel (Mendham, New Jersey) made 15 saves in her first career start as the Quinnipiac field hockey team came up short in the season opener at California, 5-1.
Vorel's 15 saves in Friday night's game were the most by a Quinnipiac goalkeeper since Megan Conaboy '15 made 22 saves in a loss vs. Penn State on Sept. 7, 2014.

She made a stretch of three saves consecutively during two separate Golden Bears' penalty corners and totaled eight saves in the first quarter off penalty corners.
Howard put home her goal midway through the third quarter but it was not enough to spark the Bobcats from a 4-0 deficit.
