Gargan to Play with Republic of Ireland WNT against U.S. in Victory Tour

HAMDEN, Conn. - Jess Gargan '19 has been called up to play with the Republic of Ireland's Women's National Team as they take on the U.S. Women's National Team on Aug. 3 in Pasadena, Calif. The single game is part of the USWNT's five-game Victory Tour after winning the 2019 FIFA Women's World Cup in France on July 7.
The Republic of Ireland and the U.S. will play at the historic Rose Bowl at 10 p.m. (ET).
Gargan recently played with the Republic of Ireland at the 2019 Summer Universiade (World University Games), a biennial competition that welcomes athletes from all over the world to compete with their native countries in one location.
The USWNT Victory Tour will kick off in Pasadena with the first game coming against the Republic of Ireland. Gargan, along with 19 other players, will face off against the Americans on Saturday, Aug. 3. The Republic of Ireland will be playing its first game as a squad since facing Italy in April before the World Cup. This will be the first game for the U.S. since defeating the Netherlands in the World Cup final.
The Republic of Ireland will use this international friendly against the U.S. as preparation before the European Championships begin in September when the squad plays Montenegro.
