Young Knocks Down Game-Winning Free Throw in Final Moments
NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. – Quinnipiac men's basketball earned a big road MAAC win on Friday night, defeating Iona 66-65 at the Hynes Center. Cameron Young grabbed an offensive rebound and drew a foul with less than two seconds left, then knocked down the first of two free throws to send the Bobcats home with the victory.
The Bobcats have now won four of their last five MAAC games, sitting at 7-4 in league play so far in 2018-19.
Young (18 points) and Jacob Rigoni (16 points) led the way offensively for Quinnipiac, while Abdulai Bundu added 10 points and eight rebounds in the win.

NOTES
- The win is Quinnipiac's first-ever victory at Hynes Center. The Bobcats are now 4-7 all-time vs. Iona.
- In less than two full seasons with the program, Head Coach Baker Dunleavy has now defeated nine of 10 other MAAC programs. Quinnipiac can make it 10-for-10 on Tuesday night, hosting Rider in Hamden.
- The Bobcats are now tied for second place in the league standings. Rider, Canisius and Siena all own identical 7-4 MAAC records, while Monmouth sits in first place at 8-4.
- Rich Kelly knocked down a 3-pointer with 2:45 left in regulation to give Quinnipiac a 63-62 lead – the Bobcats last made field goal of the contest. Kelly recorded nine points, three rebounds and three assists.
- The Bobcats went on a 11-2 run that ended with 8:59 left in the first half, which extended the lead – at the time – to 24-14.
- The Gaels then used a 19-5 run in the middle of the second half, which ultimately ended in an Asante Gist 3-pointer that gave Iona a four-point lead.
- Quinnipiac then responded with five straight points of its own on a Rigoni layup and a Kelly 3-pointer – regaining the late lead.
- Young's 18 points came on 6-of-17 shooting. The graduate guard has now scored double-digit point totals in 21 of 22 games. He added five rebounds in the win.
- Rigoni chipped in with 16 points, seven rebounds and two assists, going 7-for-11 from the floor.
- Bundu was impressive again for the Bobcats, recording 10 points and eight rebounds in total. The senior has 28 rebounds over the past three games.
- Freshman Tyrese Williams stuffed the stat sheet, adding seven points, six rebounds and six assists.
- The Bobcats went 26-for-59 (44.1 percent) from the floor in total, adding six made 3-pointers. Quinnipiac shot 15-of-31 from the floor in the first half, knocking down four 3-pointers to take a 38-29 lead in to the break.
- The Bobcats outrebounded Iona 43-32, outscoring the Gaels 40-36 in the paint. Both teams assisted on 12 baskets.
- The Bobcats are back in action on Tuesday, Feb. 12, hosting Rider at 7:00 p.m. in Hamden.
