LIVE STATS
PROVIDENCE, R.I. — Despite originally being scheduled to open the home portion of their 2019 schedule on Saturday, the Quinnipiac women's lacrosse team will instead travel to Providence, R.I. to take on the Brown Bears at 4:00 p.m.
Facilities and weather issues caused the game to be moved from Hamden to Providence.
LAST TIME OUT - QUINNIPIAC - W, 14-13 at Stetson (2OT)
Quinnipiac and Stetson battled in a back-and-forth women's lacrosse battle, ultimately resulting in a 14-13 double overtime win for the Bobcats in the 2019 season opener on Sunday afternoon at Stetson Athletic Training Center.
SCOUTING THE BEARS
The Bears return their top-five scorers from last season, including goal and point (64) leader Risa Mosenthal, who recorded 55 goals and nine assists in her rookie campaign. Junior Emma DeGennaro was second in scoring with 32 goals and 18 assists for 50 points while senior Hafsa Moinuddin was third with 24 goals and 20 assists for 44 points. The Bears set team records for goals in a season (218), points (303), draw controls (236) and shots (480) in 2018. Brown finished last season with a 9-6 overall record and were 2-5 in the Ivy League, tying for fifth place in the conference standings with four other teams.
ALL-TIME AGAINST BROWN
The two programs have met seven times, with Brown leading the overall series, 6-1. The two teams played in 2018, an 18-7 victory for the Bears at Stevenson-Pincince Field. The Bobcats' last victory came in 2009, an 11-6 decision in Hamden, Conn.
ATTACKING THE MAAC
Senior Allison Kuhn and graduate student Sami Walters both earned Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Player of the Week honors for their performances at Stetson. Kuhn was named MAAC Offensive Player of the Week after scoring five goals, including a double-overtime game-winner. She also added an assist, two draw controls, and a ground ball to her stat line. Walters, a transfer from UMass, was named MAAC Defensive Player of the Week after making a career-high nine saves in the win. After entering the game at halftime, the graduate student also picked up six ground balls in her Quinnipiac debut.
GET SWAZZY WITH IT
Junior Megan Szawlowski earned a hat trick in her Quinnipiac debut against Stetson. The Central Conneticut State transfer took six shots and won three draw controls.
NEWBIES ON THE BOARD
Freshmen Sophie Spencer and Maddie Deegan both scored a goal in their collegiate debuts against Stetson.
DOUBLE UP
A win at Brown would mark the first 2-0 start to a Quinnipiac season since 2008, when the Bobcats opened the year with victories over Iona and Connecticut.
KUHN JOINS CENTURY CLUB
Senior attack Allison Kuhn recorded her 100th career point against Canisius last season and now has 109 points (80 goals, 29 assists) heading into her season year. She is on pace to become only the ninth player in school history to record 100 career goals, as she stands 20 away to begin the season. Her six points against Stetson moved her into 15th place on the Bobcats' all-time scoring list with 115 career points so far.
MOVIN' ON UP
The Bobcats are one of just six of the 115 NCAA D1 Women's Lacrosse teams in the nation have increased their win total in each of the last four seasons.
TRENDING UPWARDS
Head Coach Tanya Kotowicz's squad has tallied more combined wins over the last two seasons than any two-year span since 2013.
UP TO THE CHALLENGE
The 16-game regular-season slate runs from February to April, and will feature two opponents that reached the 2018 NCAA Tournament. In addition, seven of Quinnipiac's opponents won at least nine games each a year ago. The program's seven regular season home competitions feature non-conference matchups with Brown, LIU Brooklyn, and defending Northeast Conference Champion Wagner College, who won a first round game in last year's NCAA Tournament.
