Men's Basketball's Comeback Falls Just Short at Fairleigh Dickinson

HACKENSACK, N.J. – Quinnipiac men's basketball's comeback attempt fell just short on Tuesday evening at the Rothman Center, as the Bobcats dropped a non-conference road contest at Fairleigh Dickinson by the final score of 78-77.
Rich Kelly paced the Bobcats' offense with 15 points and six assists, Savion Lewis stuffed the stat sheet with 14 points, six rebounds and five assists, and Kevin Marfo added 14 points and 11 rebounds.
Quinnipiac erased an 18-point deficit to claw back into the game, outscoring the Knights 48-34 over the final 20 minutes of play. The Bobcats went on a 21-11 run over the first 10:58 of the second half.

- Fairleigh Dickinson opened up the game on a 21-3 run over the first 5:58, going 9-for-9 from the floor.
- FDU's largest lead (18) came with 16:04 left in the second half.
- The Bobcats then went on a 12-0 run over a 3:35 span in the middle of the first half to close the gap. Aaron Falzon drilled a three-pointer with 13:35 left in the first half, then Matt Balanc attacked the rim for a bucket at the 10:00 mark.
- Kevin Marfo grabbed an offensive rebound and converted at the rim with five seconds left in regulation to tie the game, then Tyrese Williams fouled Xzavier Malone-Key just moments later. Malone-Key made one of two free-throw attempts to win it for FDU.
- Quinnipiac shot 31-of-61 (50.8 percent) in total, going an impressive 20-for-35 from the floor in the final 20 minutes of play. The Bobcats outrebounded Fairleigh Dickinson 36-25, and outscored the Knights 44-42 in the paint.
- QU's bench outscored FDU 31-5.
- Kelly finished with 15 points and six assists in 29 minutes, going 6-of-15 from the floor. Kelly has now tallied double-digit point totals in four of Quinnipiac's six games.
- First-year guard Savion Lewis added 14 points to go along with a career-high six rebounds and five helpers. He went 5-for-10 from the floor in 29 minutes.
- Redshirt junior Kevin Marfo added 14 points and 11 rebounds, recording his third double-double of the season. The Bobcats' big man is now averaging 9.5 points and 12.8 rebounds per game over the first six contests of the year.
- First-year guard Matt Balanc added 11 points and five rebounds, first-year forward Seth Pinkney added six points (all dunks) and five rebounds, and sophomore Tyrese Williams posted five points, three rebounds and three assists.
- The Bobcats return to the People's United Center in Hamden on Saturday, Dec. 7, hosting New Hampshire at 5:00 p.m.
