Matt Balanc Records 23 Points in Collegiate Debut

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Quinnipiac men's basketball fell in its 2019-20 opener, 70-68, on Wednesday night at the Pizzitola Sports Center.

First-year guard Matt Balanc recorded 23 points in his collegiate debut, shooting 9-of-13 from the floor. Rich Kelly recorded 13 points and five assists, while Kevin Marfo added seven points and 14 rebounds – a mark that ties his career high.

There were 16 total lead changes in the contest. Brown led for 20:07, Quinnipiac led for 16:01 and the game was tied for 3:52.

Quinnipiac shot 29-of-68 (42.6 percent) in total, knocking down six shots from distance.
Brown held the advantage in total rebounds (49-41).
Balanc scored 23 points in total – including 17 in the second half. The first-year guard shot 6-of-7 from the floor and 3-for-4 from three-point distance in the second half. Balanc added four rebounds over a team-high 31 minutes in his Bobcats' debut.
Rich Kelly had 13 points – all coming in the second half – to go along with five assists and four rebounds in 30 minutes.
First year Seth Pinkney added eight points and four rebounds in 21 minutes, adding two blocks in his collegiate debut.
Kevin Marfo tied a career high with 14 rebounds in 18 total minutes. He had seven points and 10 rebounds in the first half of play (13 minutes), going a perfect 3-for-3 from the floor.
Quinnipiac outscored Brown in the paint 44-26.
Matt Balanc (31 minutes), Aaron Falzon (28 minutes), Savion Lewis (22 minutes), Seth Pinkney (21 minutes) and Brendan McGuire (5 minutes) all made their Quinnipiac debut in the contest.
The Bobcats are now 1-9 all-time against Brown.

The Bobcats return to play on Saturday, Nov. 16, as the program will head down to Florida to take on Miami at 7:00 p.m.
The contest marks Quinnipiac's first-ever game vs. an ACC opponent. It's the second-ever meeting between the two programs, as Miami defeated Quinnipiac 80-66 on Dec. 29, 1999 at Miami Arena.
