Herd Scores 19, McClure Flirts with Triple-Double as Bobcats Dominate Stags

HAMDEN, Conn. – Taylor Herd (Quakertown, Pennsylvania) knocked down five three pointers for a career-high 19 points and Aryn McClure nearly tallied a triple-double to lead the Quinnipiac women's basketball team to a convincing 81-36 victory over the Fairfield Stags on Thursday evening at the People's United Center.

McClure posted 15 points, along with eight assists, six rebounds, four steals, and a block. Herd added two rebounds, two blocks, and a steal to her career night.

The Bobcats trailed at the end of the first quarter, but outscored the Stags 24-4 in the second frame to take the lead for good.

Mackenzie DeWees (Westminster, Maryland) posted career highs with eight rebounds and three steals along with seven points in the win.

GAME SUMMARY

Fairfield limited the Bobcats to just three field goals in the first quarter, earning a 13-11 lead through the opening ten minutes.
Quinnipiac took the lead with seven of the first nine points in the second quarter and then rattled off 17 unanswered points to take a commanding 35-17 lead into the halftime break.
In the second half, Fairfield cut the lead to 16 points, but would not get any closer for the remainder of the game. The Bobcats held the Stags to one field goal in the final 7:37 of the third quarter, which came just before the buzzer to end a 25-5 Quinnipiac run.
The fourth quarter only saw two Fairfield field goals as the Bobcats outscored the visitors 18-9 to finish off the win in the conference opener.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

The Bobcats recorded season-highs in points (81), field goals made (31), field goal % (50.8), three-point % (47.6), and assists (20).
Quinnipiac also held Fairfield to the lowest total of any opponent this season in points (36), field goals made (12), field goal % (26.7), and steals (1).
Herd's five three-pointers were the most in her three-year career and the most by a Bobcat since Carly Fabbri hit five against Fairfield on February 2, 2018.
The victory is Quinnipiac's sixth win of 40+ points since the beginning of the 2015-16 season. The win is also the 100th conference victory (regular season and playoffs) since the Bobcats joined the conference in 2013-14.
