
Associate Athletic Director Mike Medina Presents at NIRSA Intramural Institute

BROOKFIELD, Wisc. – Quinnipiac Associate Athletic Director of Intramurals Mike Medina presented at the NIRSA Intramural Institute in Brookfield, Wisc. on June 21.
Medina's presentation was titled "Can we Use Your Refs? Partnering with Local Officiating Boards,' which focused on getting student referees involved with local officiating organizations to address the current shortage of referees in the United States.
The presentation highlighted the relationship that Quinnipiac's Intramural department has with IAABO Board #10 in New Haven Country. It included success stories of recent alums, P.J. Zipser MAT '17 & Ashley Tighe DPT '18 and their officiating careers.
The NIRSA Intramural Institute is a bi-annual conference that focuses on issues in the collegiate intramural community. NIRSA comprises and supports leaders in collegiate recreation. Medina also sat on a "Panel of Experts" at the institute answering questions from the audience about best practices for private colleges and universities.
Medina was honored with the Horace Moody Award by NIRSA in 2009. This award is given to a professional member for their outstanding commitment to student development. He has served as the NIRSA State Director for Connecticut and Rhode Island and was a Co-Chair of the 2010 & 2017 NIRSA Region 1 Conference held in Connecticut.
Alumni from the Quinnipiac Intramural department have gone on to work in recreation at Barry University, Claremont McKenna College, Manhattan College, SUNY Farmingdale, University of Connecticut, UMass-Lowell, University of Washington-Bothell and Western New England University.
