LATHAM, N.Y. — The Quinnipiac men's tennis team remained perfect in the MAAC at 4-0 as it captured a 6-1 road win over Siena on Friday afternoon at Tri-Cities.
The win improves the Bobcats' record to 7-8 overall, while keeping them alone in first in the conference standings at 4-0, following Tuesday's big 4-3 home win over Marist.
The Bobcats controlled all three doubles courts to take a quick 1-0 advantage. Senior Julian Rozenstein and sophomore Patrick Cachapero earned a 6-2 win at No. 1 doubles, freshman Hielke Moore and sophomore Axel Stern earned a 6-3 win at No. 2, and senior Kyle Alper and sophomore Austin Yannone won at No. 3 by a 6-2 score.
Singles were a tighter battle, as both Alper (No. 2) and Cachapero (No. 3) needed three sets to come away with their wins. Rozenstein put the Bobcats ahead 2-0 with a 6-2, 6-1 win at No. 1, and after Siena picked up a point at No. 6, Moore (6-2, 6-4 at No. 5) and Stern (6-4, 6-2 at No. 4) finished off the clinch and took the pressure off the third sets for Alper and Cachapero.
Cachapero regrouped after falling in the second set 7-5 to finish off a 6-3, 5-7, 6-2 win to extend the lead to 5-1, and Alper closed out his match in strong fashion as well, winning 3-6, 6-3, 6-3 to cap off the 6-1 victory.
Quinnipiac will be back in action on Tuesday and Wednesday for MAAC road matches at Rider and Fairfield as it tries to solidify a high seeding in the MAAC Tournament, which will be held on April 27-28.
