HAMDEN, Conn. - The Quinnipiac tennis team fell to Bryant, 7-0, in a home, non-conference duel at the QU Outdoor Tennis Courts on Friday afternoon.
With the loss, Quinnipiac falls to 9-9 (4-1 MAAC) while Bryant improves to 9-12.
Patrick Cachapero (Loma Linda, California) and Julian Rozenstein (Marlboro, California) won the No. 1 doubles match. It was the duo's second win this season in as many contests. The win also put Rozenstein at 99 wins for his career.
The day began with the No. 2 doubles match, where Kyle Alper (Dix Hills, New York) and Kei Ezaka (Ojai, California) fell to Josh Kliger and Jorge Ortiz-Garcia, 6-3. Quinnipiac tied Bryant after Cachapero and Rozenstein defeated Luke Lorenz and Matt Kuhar in the No. 1 doubles match, 6-4. Bryant took the rubber match to clinch the doubles point after Jackson Koke (Calgary, Alberta) and Austin Yannone (Severna Park, Maryland) narrowly fell to Michael Plutt and Artur Jakubowski, 7-5.
With Bryant holding a 1-0 lead heading into doubles play, the Bulldogs rallied six straight points to cement the Quinnipiac 7-0 loss.
Rozenstein was unable to compete in his match, so Bryant was awarded a win in the No. 6 match by default. Koke lost to Plutt in straight sets in the No. 5 singles match, 6-0 and 6-1. Cachapero then fell to Luke Lorenz in the No. 2 singles match in straight sets, 6-0 and 6-4. Ezaka then took the court against Kuhar in the No. 1 match, but fell in straight sets, 6-2 and 6-1.
Alper was able to steal the first set in the No. 3 singles match against Jakubowski, 6-3 but dropped the final two sets 6-1 and 10-6. Yannone took Guido Argentini to three sets as well, dropping the first 3-6 but coming back to win the second 6-3. However, Yannone could not maintain momentum and dropped the last set, 10-3.
Quinnipiac will be back in action on Thursday, April 20, when the Bobcats host Fairfield in a MAAC duel at the QU Outdoor Tennis Courts at 3 p.m.
