
QU Women's Golf Tied For 2nd At Low Country Intercollegiate

HILTON HEAD, South Carolina - Quinnipiac women's golf completed the first round of Wofford College's Low Country Intercollegiate tied for second place among the 17 teams competing at Moss Creek Golf Club. The Bobcats were tied with Seton Hall, High Point and USC Upstate just a stroke behind leader Dalton State.
Sophomore stand-out Luciana Tobia-Palza (La Plaz, Bolivia) finished the first round tied for second with a 76 (+4). Freshman Alexandra Sazhin (New Fairfield, Connecticut) also posted a top-ten finish tied for ninth place with a 78 (+6). Julia Kemmling (Berlin, Connecticut) was four strokes behind Sazhin with an 82 (+10) for a tie of 29th place.
Tobia-Palza started on the 12th hole, and opened with the first of three bogeys before hitting the turn at +3. After a double bogey on hole No. 1, and a bogey on hole No. 2, Tobia-Palza responded with three birdies on her next seven holes to complete the front nine at +1. She parred holes 10 and 11 to head into the clubhouse at +4 for the day.
Sazhin had a better start than Tobia-Palza as the first-year Bobcat shot par on six of her first seven holes, with a bogey on hole No. 17 as her only blemish to start the day. She followed with a bogey on No. 2, as well as holes No. 6 and 4 and double bogey on hole No. 5. Sazhin then settled in to shoot par on her last four holes of the day as she finished the day two strokes behind Tobia-Palza and five strokes behind the leader.
The Bobcats will head out to Moss Creek's South Course at 9:30 a.m. for the second and final round of the Low Country Intercollegiate on Sunday, Mar. 19, 2017.
