QU Rugby Faces Dartmouth in Hopes of Third Straight National Championship

The Quinnipiac rugby team will face off against Dartmouth College in the National Intercollegiate Rugby Association championship game tomorrow at 12:00 PM. The Bobcats defeated the #3 Central Washington University Wildcats and Dartmouth was victorious over #4 Harvard in the semifinals. The championship match can be watched therugbychannel.tv. HOW THEY GOT HERE
Quinnipiac enjoyed another extremely successful season in 2017, finishing the regular season with a 7-2 record and a 5-0 record at home. The team defeated Norwich and Central Washington in the quarter and semifinals in route to the national championship game.
· The Bobcats have now finished with winning records for six straight seasons and only five combined losses in the last three campaigns.
· Senior Ilona Maher (Burlington, Vermont) finished the season as the team leader in tries (18), highlighted by a four score outburst against AIC on October 28.
· Maher had 22 runs of 20+ yards and four SAT's, both team highs.
· Senior Jessica Maricich (Lansing, Illinois) became the first ever player in program history to record 200 solo tackles. She accomplished the feat the team's quarterfinal win over Norwich.
· Maricich finished the regular season as the leader in assisted tackles (13).
· Senior Flora Poole (Christchurch, New Zealand) ended the regular season as the leader in assists (20) and solo tackles (58).
· The team finished with a 6-2 record in NIRA play, with wins over Central Washington, Norwich and season sweeps of Army and AIC.
IN THE SEMIFINALS
The Bobcats defeated rival Central Washington in an exhilarating comeback win on Friday by a score of 41-26.
· Ilona Maher tallied three tries on the day. The senior finished the season as the leader in tries (18).
· Sophomore Mikah Maples and senior Rebecca Haight combined for three tries.
· Senior Flora Poole (Christchurch, New Zealand) added two assists. She finished the season as the leader in assists (20).
· Freshman Destiny Henry (Athens, Tennessee) added an assist.
· Senior Margaret Wesolowski was 50% (3-for-6) on conversion attempts. She also added an assist.
· The team added 24 unanswered points after being down 12-7 at the half, shutting out Central Washington for the last 22 minutes of the match.
· The Bobcats improve to 7-0 at home this season.
· With the victory, the Bobcats punched their ticket to a third straight national championship appearance.
LAST TIME FACING DARTMOUTH
· One of the Bobcats two losses this season, the team fell to the Big Green in a close match by a score of 22-17.
· Junior Emily Roskopf (Dublin, California) tallied her first try of the season in the match.
· Flora Poole and senior Tayler Schussler (Westminster, Maryland) added tries of their own.
