QU Women's Golf Wins St. John's Women's Intercollegiate

HASTINGS-ON-HUDSON, New York – The Quinnipiac University women's golf team claimed its third tournament victory of the season with a win at the St. John's Women's Intercollegiate held at the historic Saint Andrew's Golf Club in Hastings-on-Hudson, New York. The Bobcats trailed by four strokes after the first round but came from behind to win the event.
Sophomore Alexandra Sazhin (New Fairfield, Connecticut) finished second overall out of 32 golfers with a 152 (+8) while junior Luciana Tobia-Palza (La Paz, Bolivia) finished third with a 154 (+10). Freshman Queenie Lai (Hong Kong, China) shot a 157 (+13) to finish tied for eighth while Julia Kemmling (Berlin, Connecticut) improved by seven strokes from the first round to finish tied for 12th with a 165 (+21). Abby Chase (Beaver Dam, Wisconsin), playing as an individual, matched Kemmling's 165 for her highest finish in a team event of the season. Senior Estefania Morales (Caracas, Venezuela) shaved two strokes off her first day tally and finished tied for 15th.

Head Coach John O'Connor: "This was a great team effort. The team played very well in very, very windy conditions on a very tough course. I'm proud of the team. This was the last match of the fall season and we're looking forward to some time off. Three wins in one season is very new for us and we're extremely pleased to win another one this year."

NOTES
- Sazhin and Tobia-Palza tied for a tournament-high seven birdies, each. For Tobia-Palza, she entered the tournament with 98 career birdies and became the first golfer in Quinnipiac history to break the 100-birdie mark.
- Sazhin and Tobia are currently tied for the team-lead in birdies with 27 each for the season.
- Quinnipiac's three wins this Fall ties the mark set by the 2015-16 team.
- This marks the first time that Quinnipiac has won the St. John's Invitational in its fourth season of competing at Saint Andrews.
- Through the final round at Saint Andrew's, Quinnipiac has accumulated 147 birdies as a team, and would need eight more during the Spring season to match last year's record-setting 155 birdies.
- The Bobcats' combined score of 626 is the eighth-best 36-hole team score in program history, while its matching 313 scores for each round are the best scores at Saint Andrew's in program history. It was also the ninth tournament victory in program history.
