Bobcats Finish Regular Season With Fourth Straight Win over Canisius, Will Face Either #6 Rider or #11 Saint Peter's in MAAC Quarterfinals Next Sunday at Disney
BUFFALO, New York – Needing a win to secure a first round bye in next week's MAAC Tournament, the Quinnipiac women's soccer team did exactly what they needed to do in a 1-0 road win over Canisius on Saturday from the Demske Sports Complex. Kylie Lance (Stow, Massachusetts) banged in a header in the 66th minute, good enough for her first goal of the season, as she lifted the Bobcats to a 5-2-3 mark in MAAC regular season play.
Armed with the win and a first round bye, Quinnipiac received the help they needed from Fairfield (tied Marist, 0-0) as the Bobcats secured the No. 3 seed in the 2017 MAAC Tournament. SCORING SUMMARY
- 65:35 (QU 1, CAN 0): After a very uneventful opening 65+ minutes of play, Quinnipiac capitalized on their eighth corner kick as Laura Nicholas (Derry City, Northern Ireland) fired a ball in from the far side of the field. As the ball curled near post, Lance managed to beat her defender to the spot and landed a great header to beat the sprawling Canisius keeper

NOTES
- Lance's goal was her first of the season while Nicholas picked up her third assist
- Lance now has two career goals, both of which have gone down as the game-winner as her first career goal last season was the difference in a 3-1 home win over Saint Peter's
- Quinnipiac's defense limited Canisuis all afternoon, as the Golden Griffins finished with just one shot on-target for the match and didn't record a shot on-goal for the final 84:13 of play
- This marks the lowest shots on-goal total allowed by the Quinnipiac defense since holding Manhattan to one shot on-target on Oct. 5 last season (24 matches ago)
- All Olivia Myszewski (Elm Grove, Wisconsin) needed was one save on the day as the sophomore recorded her fourth clean sheet in 10 MAAC games this season as she now has eight shutouts in her 26 career starts
- In MAAC play, Myszewski was outstanding in 2017 finishing with a 5-2-3 mark, 0.74 goals-against average, 51 saves (5.1 per game), .864 save percentage and four clean sheets in 10 starts
- Incredibly, this 1-0 win marks the first time Quinnipiac has won a MAAC game by a 1-0 score since defeating Manhattan on Oct. 5 last season (14 league matches ago)
- Quinnipiac wins their second straight match at Canisius and their fourth straight against the Golden Griffins
- In those four straight wins over Canisius, Quinnipiac hasn't surrendered one goal and has outscored the Golden Griffins, 10-0, in that span
