Quinnipiac Bobcats travel this Saturday, Sept. 24 to Pittsburg, Pennsylvania to meet Notre Dame College (Ohio) for a 6:30 PM conference matchup.
SCOUTING THE FALCONS
Starting off the season 1-0 against the Norwich University Cadets, the Notre Dame College Falcons are off to a strong start. Powering through the second half Notre Dame scored 17 points in a row with 12 minutes left in the contest to pass the Cadets.
OVERALL AGAINST NOTRE DAME
Bobcats have only had one matchup against Notre Dame College in program history. That contest gave Quinnipiac their first win of the 2015 season with a 41-10 victory.
Ilona Maher (Burlington, Vermont) led the team with three tries and three assists, while Emily Roskopf (Pleasanton, California) was just as impressive as she recorded three tries of her own. Wing Rebecca Haight (Oconomowoc, Wisc.) scored the other try for the Bobcats while flyhalf Maggie Myles (Emmitsburg, Md.) recorded three assists. Defensively, the Bobcats were led by flanker Jessica Maricich (Lansing, Illinois) with nine solo tackles while prop Tayler Schussler (Westminster, Maryland) record eight solo tackles. Myles and scrum-half Mason Johnson (Olympia, Washington) were tied for third on the team with five solo tackles a piece.
LAST TIME OUT
Nine different players converted tries, including two apiece from junior Ilona Maher and sophomore Emily Roskopf, as the defending national champion Quinnipiac women's rugby team rolled to a 64-3 road win over Norwich last Saturday afternoon. With the win, the Bobcats improve to 3-0 on the season and stretch their winning streak to nine matches dating back to last year.
DOUBLE TROUBLE
Junior Ilona Maher and Sophomore Emily Roskopf are dominating the field in the start of this 2016 season. Both Maher and Roskopf tallied 2 trys and 1 assist in last week's bout against Norwich University.
JOHNSON ON TOP OF THE TACKLE
Junior Mason Johnson (pictured) tallied a game high 5 solo tackles in the matchup against the Norwich Cadets last Saturday. The scrum half battled through the pack to earn 1 try and 2 assists as well. Last season Johnson had 44 solo tackles and 16 assists while earning a spot on the inaugural NIRA collegiate rugby All-America team.
SUCCESS ACROSS THE BOARD
Quinnipiac Bobcats start the 2016 season stronger than ever. Across the board the Bobcats have filled the stats sheet with dominating players. In last week's matchup against Norwich University the stats were abundant with triumph. Junior prop Karee Helgerson recorded 1 try, 1 assist, 4 solo tackles, and 1 assisted tackle. Junior center Flora Poole recorded 1 try and 2 solo tackles while classmate Jessica Maricich earned 1 try and 3 solo tackles. Amongst the dominance was freshman eight Mikah Maples who earned 1 try, 1 solo tackle, and 1 assisted tackle on the game. Seniors Tayler Schussler (1 try, 1 assist, 3 solo tackles) and Madison Gegeckas (3 for 11 conversions; 1-1 on penalty kicks) rounded out the stats sheet with impressive performances.
COMING UP NEXT
After the Bobcats take on Notre Dame College in the Steel City they will open up October with a matchup against Brown University on Oct. 8, 2016 at 11:00AM in Providence, Rhode Island. Following that contest Quinnipiac will continue their season on the road with a cross-country trip to meet Central Washington University in Ellensburg, Washington on Saturday, Oct. 15, 2016 at 3:00 PM.
