HAMDEN, Conn. – Quinnipiac women's ice hockey was ranked No. 4 overall in the USCHO.com Preseason Division I Women's Poll, USCHO announced on Monday.
This marks the third straight year the Bobcats have been ranked in the USCHO Preseason Poll, and the No. 4 overall spot is the highest preseason ranking Quinnipiac has earned in program history. The Bobcats, fresh off a 30-3-5 overall record in 2015-16, finished below Wisconsin, Minnesota, and Boston College, respectively, in the poll.
Four ECAC Hockey teams were ranked in the preseason top 10. Quinnipiac finished No. 4, Clarkson was selected at No. 5 overall, Princeton at No. 7, and Colgate at No. 8. Cornell and Harvard each received five total votes, falling just short of the top 10 overall.
The Bobcats will return four major ECAC award-winners from last year. Junior forward Taylar Cianfarano (Oswego, New York) was named ECAC Hockey Player of the Year and Forward of the Year, while senior goalie Sydney Rossman (Excelsior, Minnesota) was named ECAC Hockey Goaltender of the Year. Both earned a spot on the All-ECAC First Team.
Senior captain Emma Woods was named to the All-ECAC Third Team in 2015-16, while Melissa Samoskevich earned a spot on the ECAC Hockey All-Rookie Team as a freshman.
The Bobcats were ranked No. 5 in the final USCHO.com poll of the 2015-16 season, finishing just behind Clarkson. The Bobcats reached as high as No. 4 overall in the poll last year, a spot they held for 13 straight weeks.
Quinnipiac opens its season on Sunday, Sept. 25, at 3 p.m. hosting Guelph in an exhibition at the TD Bank Sports Center. The Bobcats then play host to Maine on Sept. 30 and Oct. 1 in Hamden to open up the regular season.
