7/14/2016 8:56:00 AM | General, Acrobatics & Tumbling
Name Alexandria Barnes
Nickname Alex or Barnes
What is your favorite tv show? Scandal
What is your favorite movie? National Treasure
If you were an ice cream flavor, what flavor of ice cream would you be? Cookie Dough, because it is just so delicious. I could eat it by itself but it is especially good with cake batter ice cream and caramel.
If someone made a movie about you, who would play your character? Kerry Washington. She is the actress from my favorite show, Scandal. She has a confidence on and off the show. It isn't an in-your-face confidence but you can always tell that she is comfortable in her own and she is proud of everything does. She also uses her position as a celebrity to raise awareness on issues she cares about, which is super powerful.
What professional athlete inspires you? Dominique Dawes. After meeting her as a young gymnast she became such a great role model. I had the opportunity to work with her and she exuded this calm energy. Looking back at her videos you can definitely see that. She was always had this calm confidence that I admire and strive to achieve.
If you could play any sport professionally other than the sport you play now, which sport would it be? Diving, since I already know how to flip I think it would be so cool to use those skills in another atmosphere. I also feel it's a sport that would be a challenge and I could push myself to reach bigger and better skills.
What's one thing that set Quinnipiac apart from the rest of the schools you visited? I just felt at home at Quinnipiac. When I came on my recruiting trip I could see myself here with this team. I felt like this was a good place to get out of my comfort zone, become friends with that I normally wouldn't and explore opportunities that I wouldn't have had access to without this athletic program.
What's your favorite course that you've taken at Quinnipiac? My favorite course so far is 20th Century World History. My professor was awesome and the class just gave me perspective - especially with everything that is happening around the world right now. I got to learn a little bit about the history of some of these places in the news and it was just really interesting to see how the past leads to the events of the present.
What will wearing the Bobcat logo mean to you? Wearing the Bobcat logo means being a part of a family. Every time I step into practice or onto the competition floor I always have this wonderful group of people behind me to support me and that have my back.
What will you bring to the team this year? This year I want to bring confidence and leadership to the team. As a sophomore, I'll be one of the SAAC representatives for the team along with Emily Lowenstein and I just want to make my new teammates feel welcome. I want to show them that Quinnipiac really is your second home and family. The people you meet here in and out of athletics truly have an impact and make a difference in your life.
Who is your funniest teammate? Emilly Stoveken. She is hilarious and she doesn't even try to be - and that's the best part! It's always just the little comments that crack me up.
What's your favorite inspirational quote? "It ain't about how hard you can hit, it's about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward."
