BLOOMFIELD, Conn. - The Quinnipiac women's golf team is in first place by one stroke out of eight teams after the first day of the two-day Hartford Hawks Invitational at Tumble Brook Country Club in Bloomfield.
Freshman Luciana Tobia (La Paz, Bolivia), who was just named the ECAC Rookie of the Month for March earlier this week, is tied for first with a 75 (+3) matching Sacred Heart's Ellen Nighbor for the low round of the day. Senior Jennifer Whaley (Farmington, Conn.) is two shots behind with a 77 (+5) to tie her for third place with Central Connecticut's Ella Williams, although Whaley is participating as an individual and does not count towards the team score.
Freshman Julia Kemmling (Berlin, Conn. - pictured) had a strong opening round and is tied for fifth overall with a +6, while senior Taylor Lambrou (Baldwin, N.Y.) is also in the top ten with a +8, tying her for ninth place.
As a team, the Bobcats shot an aggregate total of 315, giving them a one-shot lead over Central Connecticut with a 316. Sacred Heart is in third with a 319 in the eight-team field, which also includes Hartford, Fairfield, Saint Francis Brooklyn, Holy Cross and LIU, which are placed 4-8 after day one, respectively.
The second day of the two-day event will take place tomorrow at the Tumble Brook Country Club. To view the full results from the opening day, go to the following link from GolfStat:
