
QU Men's Tennis Cruises to 4-1 Victory Over Sacred Heart

HAMDEN, Conn. – Kei Ezaka (Ojai, California), Jonas Kuwert (Jesteberg, Germany) and Freddie Zaretsky (Fair Lawn, New Jersey) each won two matches for the Quinnipiac men's tennis team Friday afternoon as the Bobcats won their fourth straight match with a 4-1 victory over the Sacred Heart Pioneers at the QU Outdoor Tennis Courts.
The Bobcats improve to 11-6 (3-0 MAAC) on the season while the Pioneers fall to 6-11 (1-1 NEC) with their fourth straight loss.
Ezaka's two wins put him at 99 in his career and 29 this season. He is just one win shy of becoming the seventh player in Division I program history to win 100 career matches. Kuwert also picked up two more wins for the Bobcats as he improved to 88 career wins and 22 this season. Zaretsky was the final Bobcat to win two matches on the day as he won his 28th and 29th wins of the stories.
Opening up the match in doubles play, Kuwert and Zaretsky picked up the win at No. 1 doubles over Matt Dean and Brian Power, 6-2, and Ezaka and Ryoma Haraguchi (New York, New York) defeated Cory Seltman and Mathieu Pilote, 6-2. The No. 3 doubles match between Ben Teicher (Kendall Park, New Jersey) and Julian Rozenstein (Marlboro, New Jersey) and Sacred Heart's Karan Narula and Derek Chapman went unfinished with the Bobcats leading, 4-3.
In singles play, Kuwert dominated his way to a win at No. 4 singles against Narula, 6-1, 6-0. Ezaka also picked up a win at No. 1 singles as he cruised past Power, 6-4, 6-3. Rozenstein had an easy win for the Bobcats against Chapman at No. 3 singles, 6-3, 6-1, over Chapman to secure the win.
Seltman picked up the lone win for the Pioneers as he defeated Teicher, 6-3, 6-0. Haraguchi was trailing Pilote, 5-7, 2-1 at No. 5 singles and Zaretsky was up on Dean, 6-2, 5-4, when the match was wrapped up with the clinch point.
The Quinnipiac men's tennis team returns to action on Tuesday, Apr. 12 at 3 PM when they host the Marist Red Foxes in a rematch of their 2015 MAAC Tournament semifinals matchup.
