BIG MAAC MATCHUP
Quinnipiac heads to Marist on Saturday in a battle of the teams that were picked 1-2 in the preseason poll of the MAAC Coaches. Marist was the favorite to repeat as conference champions, with Monmouth holding down the No. 3 spot. Both teams are currently unblemished in league play, with Marist off to a 2-0 start with wins over Monmouth and Canisius, while the Bobcats opened league play with a home win over Siena. Quinnipiac and Marist met in last year's MAAC Championship game, which was also held at Marist.
MARIST SERIES
Quinnipiac holds a narrow 5-4 lead in the series with Marist, although the Red Foxes have captured the last three meetings. A year ago, Marist took the regular season meeting at Quinnipiac 17-10 and held on for a narrow 16-14 win in the MAAC Championship game in Poughkeepsie.
LAST YEAR vs. MARIST
The Red Foxes jumped out to a 9-1 lead in the second quarter and then held off a furious Quinnipiac rally to capture a 16-14 win in the MAAC Championship game at Tenney Stadium. Graduated senior Michael Sagl had five goals in the Bobcat comeback, while current seniors Ryan Keenan (two goals, two assists) and Connor Meth (two goals) had big games as well. The Bobcats scored seven times in the second quarter, capped off by current senior Nate Nibbelink's goal in the final minute, to close within 12-8 at the half, but they couldn't get closer than two after halftime. Current junior goalkeeper Jack Brust was busy and kept the Bobcats in the game with a career-high 19 saves. Four different players had hat tricks for Marist, led by J.D. Recor (three goals, three assists) and Joseph Radin (three goals, two assists). In the regular season meeting, Keenan had four goals and one assist for the Bobcats, but they were defeated at home 17-10 behind seven goals from Marist's Colin Joka.
LAST GAME (QUINNIPIAC 11, SIENA 6)
Quinnipiac used a dominant second-half performance to come away with an 11-6 win over Siena in its MAAC opener on Saturday at QU Lacrosse Turf Complex. After trailing 4-3 at the half and falling behind 5-3 early in the second quarter, the Bobcats scored five straight goals to close out the third quarter and take command. Senior attack Ryan Keenan had a goal and two assists in the stretch, including a pretty unassisted goal with 3.8 seconds left to cap off the quarter, while senior midfielder Connor Meth had two goals, one of which came man-down to give Quinnipiac the lead for good. Sophomore attack Brian Feldman helped seal the win with two fourth-quarter goals to give him his fourth hat trick of the season. Jack Brust also had a big day in goal, tallying 14 saves and allowing only two goals after halftime.
BRUST EARNS SECOND MAAC DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF WEEK AWARD
Junior goalkeeper Jack Brust was named the MAAC Defensive Player of the Week for the second time this season after his big performance in Saturday' s win over Siena (see above). Brust first earned the honor back on March 7, after tallying 12 saves in a close win over NJIT.
SECOND HALF'S THE CHARM
Junior goalkeeper has had a strong season thus far for the Bobcats, but what has been most impressive is how dominant he has been in the second half of Quinnipiac wins. In a 9-7 win over NJIT on March 5, Brust had eight saves in the second half and allowed only two goals after the game was tied 5-5 at the half. In an 11-10 comeback win over Hartford on March 12, Brust allowed only three goals in the second half while making seven saves as the Bobcats snapped a six-game losing streak in the series with the Hawks. Then in Saturday's win over Siena, Brust allowed only two goals after halftime while making seven of his 14 saves in Quinnipiac's 11-6 win. In the four wins this season, Brust has allowed only 10 goals while making 25 saves (a .714 save percentage).
KEENAN TWO POINTS AWAY FROM CENTURY MARK
Senior attack Ryan Keenan is on his way to finishing among the all-time leaders in Quinnipiac history in goals and points. Keenan enters the Marist game just two points shy of becoming the 12th player in school history to record 100 career points, as he now has 70 goals and 28 assists in his four-year career. His 70 goals, including nine so far this season, rank him 11th in Bobcat annals, two shy of moving into the top 10. Keenan also has an active streak of 21 straight games with at least one point, dating back to 2015 opening day against Brown.

A COLLECTION OF HAT TRICKS FOR FELDMAN
Sophomore attack Brian Feldman enters the Marist game with 43 career goals in his first season and a half, ahead of pace to score over 100 goals in his career, something only three Bobcats have accomplished. He leads Quinnipiac with 14 goals this season, including four hat tricks, three of which came consecutively in wins over Bellarmine, NJIT and Hartford. In his career, he now has nine hat tricks, including a career-best five goals twice last year against Stony Brook and in the MAAC Semifinals against Detroit.

FAMILY TIES
Quinnipiac's top two goal-scorers in the last two seasons are sophomore attack Brian Feldman (43) and senior attack Ryan Keenan (36). Coincidentally, they aren't the first members of their families to play college lacrosse together. Keenan's father, Derek, and Feldman's father, Daniel, played for one season together on the Ithaca lacrosse team in 1987, when Derek Keenan was a senior and Daniel Feldman was a freshman. It was a connection both players were unaware of until they were teammates at Quinnipiac.
METH COMES UP BIG
Senior midfielder Connor Meth has had a pair of game-winning goals in the last month, including a dramatic sudden-death overtime game-winner in an 11-10 win over Hartford on March 12, an unassisted goal when he came from behind the cage to bounce in the winning shot. In Saturday's win over Siena in Quinnipiac's MAAC opener, Meth had back-to-back unassisted goals with the score tied 5-5 in the third, the first of which came while the Bobcats were playing a man down. The second of his two goals held up as the game-winner as the Bobcats went on to an 11-6 win.
FROST EARNS MAAC HONORS
Freshman attack Matt Frost was named the MAAC Men's Lacrosse Rookie of the Week on Feb. 29 after scoring his first three collegiate goals in Quinnipiac's 12-6 road win over Bellarmine. It was a key road win for the Bobcats over a Bellarmine team that had come into the game after falling just 11-6 at No. 1 Notre Dame earlier in the week.
INSTANT IMPACT
After being held scoreless in his first collegiate game, freshman midfielder Foster Cuomo (pictured) has developed into one of the team's top weapons, with at least one point in each of his last six contests. He had a goal and three assists in a win over Bellarmine on Feb. 27 and had a two-goal, one-assist effort against Fairfield on Tuesday, March 23 to tie him for team-high honors in points. He added a goal and an assist in Saturday's MAAC opener against Siena and now has 13 points on the season, tying him for third on the team.
WHERE THERE'S A WILL
Sophomore midfielder Will Vitelli has played a very important role in three Quinnipiac wins this season with his dominance on faceoffs, including Saturday's MAAC opener against Siena, when he won 16 of his 21. He was actually a perfect 9-for-9 in the first half to help the Bobcats stay within 4-3 against the Saints before regrouping at the half to pull away for an 11-6 win. Earlier in the year, Vitelli won 15 of 22 faceoffs in a win at Bellarmine on Feb. 27, and 13 of 20 in a home win over NJIT on March 5. For the season, he is just about .500 (63 of 127), indicating that his performance tends to have a significant role in Quinnipiac's success.
NEW ROLES PAY OFF FOR CARCHIETTA, D'ANTONIO AGAINST FAIRFIELD
Sophomore Anthony Carchietta was in the opening day starting lineup at attack, but moved back to the starting midfield at Fairfield on March 23. He responded to the new role in fine fashion, tallying his first career multi-goal game with two goals and one assist in the 13-7 loss to the Stags. Junior Drew D'Antonio also made his first start with the Bobcats at attack against Fairfield (after transferring from Bryant in the offseason) and had a goal and an assist.
BOBCAT STAT LEADERS
There is a tight four-way race for the points lead for the Bobcats so far this season, with senior attack Ryan Keenan currently leading the squad with 18 points (nine goals, nine assists). He is followed closely by sophomore attack Brian Feldman, who has a team-best 14 goals, and freshman midfielder Foster Cuomo (8-5-13) and senior midfielder Connor Meth (9-4-13) who are tied for third. Sophomore midfielder Ryan Vitelli leads in faceoffs won (63) and ground balls with 25, while junior goalkeeper Jack Brust is second in ground balls (21) and has a 10.39 goals against average and a .517 save percentage. Senior midfielder Nate Nibbelink has added 19 ground balls, while senior defenseman Ryan Lawler leads with 12 caused turnovers (fellow defensemen Chris Kendall and Riley Palmer have nine).
SCOUTING THE RED FOXES
Marist comes into the weekend with a 4-4 overall record and a 2-0 mark in the MAAC after pulling out close wins over Monmouth (9-8) and Canisius (13-10). Joseph Radin has been the dominant scoring weapon for the Red Foxes thus far with 25 goals, while three other players are also in double figures - J.D. Recor (15), John Vigh (11), and Gannon Morrison (10). Morrison has been the team's top feeder with 13 assists, while Brian Corrigan has played every minute in goal and has a .600 save percentage and an 8.48 goals against average and defenseman Frankie Brier leads in ground balls with 26. Marist's achilles heel has been at the faceoff X, where they have won just 54 of 170 this season (31.8 percent).
LAWSON PROVIDES A LIFT IN WIN AT HARTFORD
Sophomore midfielder Ryan Lawson saw his first action of the 2016 season on March 12 against Hartford and came up big, providing two second half goals to help the Bobcats rally from a 7-3 halftime deficit to win in overtime. Lawson's second goal tied the score at 9-9 late in the fourth quarter after the Hawks had broken an 8-8 tie. Lawson had two goals as a freshman last season, one of which came against a Stony Brook team that finished the year ranked in the top 20.
BOBCATS PICKED SECOND IN MAAC COACHES POLL
The Quinnipiac men's lacrosse team was picked to finish second in the MAAC Preseason Coaches Poll, announced on December 9, 2015. Marist College, last year's MAAC Champions, claimed the top spot in the poll, while Monmouth was picked third. Marist and Quinnipiac met in the conference championship game a year ago, which the Red Foxes won on their home field 16-14.
INSIDE LACROSSE RECOGNITION
Three seniors on the Quinnipiac men's lacrosse team – attack Ryan Keenan, midfielder Connor Meth and defenseman Chris Kendall - were named to the Preseason All-MAAC team by Inside Lacrosse Magazine in December. Keenan and Meth were also named to the Preseason All-MAAC team, which was voted on by the conference coaches.
BOBCATS NAME 2016 CAPTAINS
Five members of the Bobcats will share captain duties this spring, including four seniors and a redshirt junior. Attack Ryan Keenan, midfielder Connor Meth, defenseman Chris Kendall, face-off specialist Connor Devane, and goalkeeper Jack Brust will give Quinnipiac veteran leadership at every position on the field.
YOUNG SQUAD IN 2016
The leadership of the Bobcats captains (see above) will be key as Quinnipiac has a lot of young faces on the team this season. A total of 31 of the 43 players on the roster are freshmen (15) and sophomores.(16), while two junior transfers in their first seasons at Quinnipiac, adding to the influx of new talent. The youth has Quinnipiac poised to be a consistent contender in the MAAC for the next few seasons.
TOUGH TOP TO BOTTOM
Quinnipiac finished second in the MAAC last season, but just about every conference game it played came down to the wire. The Bobcats played at least one game against each of the other six conference teams that was decided by three goals or less, picking up one-goal wins over Detroit (13-12) and Monmouth (9-8) and two-goal wins over Manhattan (8-6) and Canisius (9-7). The Bobcats also fell 9-6 to Siena and dropped a 16-14 decision to Marist in the MAAC title game.
HOME, SWEET HOME
Quinnipiac's performance on its home turf will be important for the team's prospects in the MAAC this year, and the Bobcats got off to a good start with an 11-6 win over Siena last weekend. The Bobcats play road games against the other three teams that qualified for the MAAC Tournament last year (Marist, Monmouth, Detroit). A year ago, Quinnipiac earned two big one-goal wins on its home field, edging Detroit and Monmouth to earn the No. 2 seed in the conference tournament.
