
QU Women's Ice Hockey Ranked No. 5 in Final USCHO Poll of 2015-16 Season

HAMDEN, Connecticut – The Quinnipiac women's ice hockey team was ranked No. 5 in the final USCHO.com Division I Women's Poll of the 2015-16 season, as announced on Monday, March 21.
Quinnipiac had its best season in program history come to an end in the first round of the NCAA Tournament on March 12 with a 1-0 loss to Clarkson. The Golden Knights were ranked fourth in the poll after falling to Boston College in the Frozen Four.
The only changes in the poll came within the top five positions as Minnesota jumped to No.1 in the country after winning the National Championship for the second straight season. Boston College fell to No. 2 after their first loss while Wisconsin fell to No. 3 in the poll.
The Bobcats were ranked No. 4 in the country for 13 consecutive weeks during the season and have been ranked in the top 10 for 67 consecutive weeks. Despite their No. 5 ranking, the Bobcats are still No. 4 in the PairWise Rankings and No. 4 in RPI.
Quinnipiac had a year of firsts on many fronts, along with many program records falling in the process. The Bobcats went 30-3-5 for the most wins in program history as well as the highest winning percentage (.855) in program history. Head coach Cassandra Turner set the NCAA Record for most wins by a first year women's ice hockey head coach.
Other team records for the Bobcats set this year were most goals scored (118), most assists (188), highest power play percentage (25 percent), highest penalty kill (92.5 percent), fewest goals allowed (35), lowest GAA (0.92), most home wins (18), tied the most road wins (11), longest winning streak (10 games), and longest unbeaten streak (21 games).
Individually, Sydney Rossman (Excelsior, Minnesota) set the program record for fewest goals allowed (35), lowest GAA (0.90), and most wins (30) while her .949 save percentage was the second highest in program history and her 16 shutouts were tied for the most in program history, as well as the third most in NCAA women's ice hockey history.
Nicole Connery (Newmarket, Ontario) and Nicole Kosta (Mississauga, Ontario) both reached the 100-point mark this season to become the third and fourth players in program history. Kosta will wrap up her career with 123 points while Connery posted 102 points, and was just the third player in program history to record at least 40 goals and 40 assists in a career.
Taylar Cianfarano (Oswego, New York) recorded the third most points in single-season program history with 52 while her 28 goals were tied for the second most in a season in program history. Her 45 career goals through just 74 career games are the second most in program history behind Kelly Babstock's 95.
Melissa Samoskevich (Sandy Hook, Connecticut) scored 32 points for the Bobcats to record the third most points in a season by a freshman in program history. She tallied 16 goals, second overall on the team, as well as tallying 16 assists.
In addition to these players, numerous others on the team this season set new personal career-highs as part of the Bobcats' historic season.
