
Rozenstein Battles to No. 3 Singles Win as QU Men's Tennis Falls, 6-1, to Northern Illinois

CASSELBERRY, Florida – Julian Rozenstein (Marlboro, New Jersey) picked up the only win of the afternoon for the Quinnipiac men's tennis team as they fell in the first game of their Florida trip, 6-1, to the Northern Illinois Huskies on Monday afternoon.
Quinnipiac falls to 6-4 on the season with the loss while Northern Illinois improves to 11-5 on the season.
Rozenstein's win was his 21st of the season, 15th in singles as he ties Kyle Alper (Dix Hills, New York) for the most singles wins on the team this season. Rozenstein has won a singles match in four of the six matches the Bobcats have played this spring.
Northern Illinois swept the doubles point to take an early 1-0 lead. Louis-Philippe Hamel and Tom Hjertonsson teamed up at No. 3 doubles to win the first match of the day over Kei Ezaka (Ojai, California) and Alper, 6-1. Kevin Daun and Georg Lundkvist followed that up with a win at No. 2 doubles over Luke Roser (Bernardsville, New Jersey) and Freddie Zaretsky (Fair Lawn, New Jersey) to take the doubles point with a 6-4 win. Carlos Manzanas and Austin Russell finished off the sweep by defeating Jonas Kuwert (Jesteberg, Germany) and Willem van Biezen (Warmond, The Netherlands), 6-4.
Manzanas and Ezaka were the first singles match of the day to finish up, with Manzanas winning the No. 1 singles match, 6-1, 6-2. Russell followed that win up shortly after with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Alper. Hamel secured the match for the Huskies with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Zaretsky. At No. 4 singles, Hjertonsson and Kuwert battled but Kuwert was edged in two sets, 6-4, 7-5.
At No. 5 singles, van Biezen nearly pulled out the victory for the Bobcats over Daun after coming to win the second set but Daun pulled away in the third set, 7-5, 6-7 (8), 10-6. Rozenstein's No. 3 singles match against Lundkvist was the last match to finish despite going only two sets. Both sets went to lengthy tiebreakers which Rozenstein took, 7-6 (8), 7-6 (5).
The Quinnipiac men's tennis team returns to action on Tuesday, March 15 with two matches on tap. The Bobcats will face the Bucknell Bison at 10:30 AM at Lake Cane in Orlando, Florida before traveling to Fort Gatlin for their second match of the day at 1 PM against the Southern Mississippi Golden Eagles.
