2016 SEASON OPENER
This weekend the Quinnipiac softball team will kick off their 2016 spring season in Rosemont, Illinois for the Total Control Sports Invitational, co-hosted by Loyola and the University of Illinois at Chicago. The Bobcats will play five games at the Rosemont Dome over three days. The tournament will mark the first of four for Quinnipiac to begin the year.
SCOUTING LIPSCOMB
The Bison enter the tournament with a 1-4 record after competing in the Sand Dollar Classic in Alabama. Lipscomb began the season with four consecutive losses to Samford, South Alabama, Florida A&M and Louisiana Tech. They captured their first win of the year against Southern Mississippi, 6-1. Senior Brittany Elmore leads the team with a .368 batting average on seven hits in 19 at bats. Senior Tanner Sanders heads the pitching staff with a 0.38 earned run average over four appearances. She is 1-1 on the season with two complete games and 11 strikeouts.
SCOUTING INDIANA STATE
The Sycamores will open their spring season against the Bobcats at 8 p.m. on Friday, February 19. Last season, Indiana State finished the year 27-31 and 13-13 in the Missouri Valley Conference. The Sycamores will look to junior Erika Crissman to lead the offense. In 2015, Crissman finished the year with a .354 batting average and a .454 slugging percentage.
SCOUTING WESTERN ILLINOIS
Western Illinois enters the Total Control Sports Invitational Tournament with a 0-5 record. The Fighting Leathernecks could not capture a win at the Ramada UNI-Dome Classic in Cedar Falls, Iowa. WIU fell to Green Bay, Nebraska, Saint Louis, Drake and Northern Iowa. Karissa Kouchis leads the offense with a .444 batting average through five games.
SCOUTING LOYOLA
The Ramblers currently sit at 2-1 through three games to start the season. At the Kennesaw State Classic, Loyola defeated Murray State and North Carolina Central before losing to Murray State in their final game of the tournament. Sophomore Brooke Wyderski leads the squad with a .625 batting average on five hits in eight at bats to go along with six runs batted in. Senior pitcher Ashley Rogers is 1-0 with a complete game shutout in five innings, allowing just one hit and recording seven strikeouts.
SCOUTING GREEN BAY
After competing in the Ramada UNI-Dome Classic, the Phoenix travel to Chicago with a 2-3 overall record. Green Bay began the season with back-to-back wins over South Dakota State and Western Illinois but dropped their next three contests against Drake, Northern Iowa and Nebraska. Through five games, Allie Taylor leads the Phoenix with a .500 batting average and a 1.000 slugging percentage. The junior has seven hits which include two homeruns and one double while adding five runs batted in

The Bobcats will take a few days off after competing in the Total Control Sports Invitaitonal before heading to Hampton, Virginia on Friday, February 26 for their second tournament of the year. Quinnipiac will play five games in three days at the Hampton Tournament, taking on Buffalo, Rhode Island, Princeton and Hampton.

The Quinnipiac University softball team was picked to finish eighth in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Preseason Coaches' Poll, as announced by the conference office on Monday, Feb. 1, 2016.

Quinnipiac returns 11 players from last year's squad, seven of which are juniors or seniors. In addition the Bobcats will look to a strong core of four sophomores who each played in at least 35 games including Maria Ascher (Little Canada, Minnesota), Miranda Magana (Santa Paula, California), Emily Czaja (Palmer, Massachusetts) and Casey Herzog (Wappingers Falls, New York). Both Ascher and Magana were two of four Bobcats to play in all 50 games.
HAMDEN ADVANTAGE
Last season, the Bobcats registered a 10-8 home record at the QU Softball Field while also going 6-4 in MAAC play in Hamden.
2015 ALL-MAAC ROOKIE TEAM
Third baseman Miranda Magana and starting pitcher Casey Herzog were honored on the All-MAAC Rookie Team for their stellar freshmen campaigns. Magana ranked third on the team with a .279 batting average and second on the squad with 38 hits and 18 RBI, while adding a .320 on base percentage and a .331 slugging percentage. Herzog came up big in the circle, in her last five appearances, she allowed just three earned runs while picking up three saves and a win. The freshman also led the team with four saves while adding three victories on the year.

Jill Karwoski will guide Quinnipiac in her third season as the Bobcats head coach in the hopes of improving on a 2015 season that saw the Quinnipiac finish the year at 18-33 overall and 8-12 in the MAAC.
