
QU Field Hockey Falls To No. 3 UConn, 5-1

STORRS, Connecticut – The Quinnipiac University field hockey team lost to No. 3 University of Connecticut, 5-1, in a BIG EAST Conference match-up at the George J. Sherman Family Field in Storrs, Connecticut. Quinnipiac drops to 4-13 overall and completes its first season in the BIG EAST with a conference record of 3-4. UConn improves to 17-1 overall and 7-0 in the BIG EAST.
Quinnipiac senior captain Savanna Reilly's (Hamden, Connecticut) ninth goal of the year makes her the seventh player in program history to reach 25 goals for a career, as well as the seventh player in program history to reach 60 career points. Senior Angie King (South Windsor, Connecticut) recorded her 13th defensive save of the season and 30th of her career while Lauren Belskie (Hillsborough, New Jersey) recorded her third defensive save of the season. In goal, freshman Olivia Golini (York, Maine) stopped career-best 13 of UConn's 20 shots-on-goal. Golini's previous career-high was 12 against Boston College.
UConn rattled off three-straight goals to jump out to a commanding lead in the first half. Amanda Collins scored off a pass from Amelia Iacubucci to put the Huskies on the board before goals by Anna Middendorf and Svea Boker both scored to give UConn a 3-0 lead.
Reilly scored her team-leading ninth goal of the season with five minutes to play in the half. Bobcats' stand-out freshman Ines Ruiz-Martinez (Madrid, Spain) forced a turnover at midfield and started the play, handing it to Valerie Perkins (Yorktown Heights, New York) just above the circle. Perkins then connected with Reilly to put the Bobcats on the board.
UConn's Barbara Hoogen scored less than two minutes later to push UConn's league back to three goals before scoring again six minutes into the second half to give UConn a 5-1 lead.
Quinnipiac's final game of the season lands on Sunday, Oct. 28 when the Bobcats face Yale at Johnson Field at 2 p.m. Prior to the start of the game, Quinnipiac's Angie King, Savanna Reilly and Allison Tanner will be honored as part of Senior Day Festivities.
