Barlow had a goal and an assist in the win for Quinnipiac after setting the game-tying goal before scoring the game-winner early in overtime. Freshman Valerie Perkins (Mohegan Lake, New York) and Michelle Federico (Cheshire, Connecticut) also scored for the Bobcats while freshman goalkeeper stopped four of Yale's six shots-on-goal in the win.
Perkins gave Quinnipiac a 1-0 lead with her first career goal in the 11th minute. Following a Yale corner, Lauren Belskie (Hillsborough, New Jersey) collected a loose ball in the Yale circle and cleared it up-field to Elisa Ruiz-Martinez (Madrid, Spain). Elisa moved the ball to younger sister, Ines Ruiz-Martinez (Madrid, Spain), who after losing the ball, won it back immediately. Perkins slid behind the Bulldog defense and stood one-on-one with Yale's Emilie Katz who left the goal to play the ball before making a dive on Perkins' head fake. With the Bulldog goalkeeper out of the play, Perkins slapped the ball into the back of the cage to give the Bobcats a one-goal lead.
Seconds later, Yale got on the board when Carol Middough unleashed a blast from just outside of the circle on the Bobcats' goal. Danee Fitzgerald was camped out in front of the Quinnipiac goal for the re-direct to the far post past Golini to knot the game at 1-1 with her fifth of the season.
Two minutes later, Brooke Reese gave Yale a 2-1 lead with her fourth goal of the season in the 13th minute. Off a corner Bridget Condie blasted a shot on goal from the top of the circle that was blocked by Belskie in front of the Quinnipiac goal. The ball was sent flying shoulder-high to the opposite post where Reese was waiting to bat it out of the air, past Golini, to give Yale a one-goal lead.
Early in the second half, Belskie made another great defensive play, tipping a Yale pass at midfield over to Dayna Barlow (Port Elizabeth, South Africa). Barlow took off down-field, running through the Yale defense and sending the ball into the circle. The ball bounced over a Bulldog stick and waited for Michelle Federico (Cheshire, Connecticut) who wound-up and send the ball on a line past Katz for her fourth of the season to tie the game at 2-2.
Three minutes into the overtime period, Elisa Ruiz-Martinez handled the ball along the goalline to the left of Yale's cage, maneuvered around a Yale defender and centered a pass to Barlow. The Bobcat junior turned and wheeled, sending the ball past Katz and seal the win for the Bobcats.
Prior to the start of the game, Quinnipiac field hockey honored its senior student-athletes in a joint Senior Day ceremony with Yale field hockey. The game signalled the final game of the careers of Angie King (South Windsor, Connecticut), Savanna Reilly (Hamden, Connecticut) and Allison Tanner (Short Hills, New Jersey).
