PHILADELPHIA, Pennsylvania – The Quinnipiac University field hockey team lost to Temple, 3-2, in a BIG EAST Conference match-up at Howarth Field in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. With the loss, Quinnipiac drops to 3-3 in the conference while Temple improves to 3-3.
Quinnipiac's Felicia Costanzo (Yorktown Heights, New York) and Dayna Barlow (Port Elizabeth, South Africa) both scored while Lauren Belskie (Hillsborough, Pennsylvania) and Valerie Perkins (Yorktown Heights, New York) both had assists.
Costanzo scored the game's first goal to put Quinnipiac out in front early. Belskie received the ball from Inez Ruiz-Martinez (Madrid, Spain) above the circle and played the ball on-cage. The ball was knocked down in the front of the cage where Costanzo was able to collect it and score to give Quinnipiac a 1-0 lead.
Temple responded with a pair of goals before the half from Maddie Merton and Sara Keer, which Merton assisted on. Coming out of the half, Merton scored her second goal of the game in the opening minutes of the second half to give Temple a 3-1 lead.
Late in the game, Quinnipiac stepped up the pressure as it chased the Owls by two goals. The Bobcats earned several corners in the closing minutes but were denied as they pressured. It was until Perkins took control of a loose ball in front of the Temple goal before playing it to her right between a pair of Owls' defenders to Barlow who scored her seventh goal of the season. In addition, Barlow now boasts a four-game goal-scoring streak and has totaled six goals and two assists in her last seven games.
The Bobcats will wrap-up their BIG EAST Conference schedule on Friday, Oct. 28 at nationally-ranked No. 1 UConn before its season finale at Yale on Sunday, Oct. 30.
