
QU Men's Ice Hockey Ranked 3rd in USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine Poll, 4th In USCHO.com Poll

HAMDEN, Connecticut - The Quinnipiac University men's ice hockey team was ranked fourth in the latest USCHO.com Division I Poll and third in the USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine Poll as announced on Monday, Oct. 17, 2016. The Bobcats are coming off a 1-1-0 weekend that saw then fall to Maine in overtime on Friday, Oct. 14 before bouncing back with a 4-3 win against the Black Bears in overtime on Saturday night.
The Bobcats opened the season with a No. 2 ranking in the USCHO.com Division I Preseason Poll, which stood as its highest preseason ranking in program history. The Bobcats are currently 2-1-1 through its first four games and sit behind North Dakota, Minnesota-Duluth and Notre Dame in the national poll. In the USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine Poll, North Dakota and Minnesota-Duluth are first and second, followed by the Bobcats and then Notre Dame.
Tim Clifton (Matawan, New Jersey) and Andrew Taverner (Edmonton, Alberta) both scored once and assisted on another in the weekend split in Orono, Maine. Clifton checks-in with three goals and an assist for the year while Taverner is just behind at two goals and an assist. For his career, Clifton has scored 34 goals and assisted on 40 more for 74 points while his 16 career power play goals rank second among active NCAA Division I players. Tommy Schutt (Chanhassen, Minnesota), Thomas Aldworth (Keller, Texas) and Craig Martin (Trail, British Columbia) also scored this weekend, with Martin's first goal of the year giving the Bobcats the overtime win against Maine.
Quinnipiac is back in action this week when it hosts UConn on Wednesday, Oct. 19 at 7 p.m. at High Point Solutions Arena. The Bobcats will also travel to No. 8/8 Boston University on Saturday, Oct. 22 and host UMass on Tuesday, Oct. 25.
