Senior Standout Grabs Her Fourth Career MAAC Runner of the Week Honor
HAMDEN, Connecticut – Quinnipiac women's cross country senior Niamh Ashe (East Islip, New York) was named the MAAC Women's Cross Country Runner of the Week, as announced by the league office on Wednesday, October 12, 2016.
Ashe's fourth career MAAC Runner of the Week honor comes on the heels of the standout earning her third career All-New England honor after placing 8th overall at the New England Championships in Boston. After missing the first three meets of the season due to injury, Ashe's first appearance of 2016 made a strong impression on the conference as she figures to battle for the MAAC title at the end of the month.
Running for the first time in 2016, Ashe broke out in a big way as she led the Bobcats with an eighth place finish out of 234 runners. The sensational effort gives Ashe her third career All-New England honor in three career appearances at the event. After missing the first three meets of the season with injury, Ashe returned to form with a solid performance and time of 18:06.6. She now has placed first on the team in all 16 career events in which she has competed and bumped her career total up to nine Top 10 finishes.
Next up for Ashe and the Bobcats is an important appearance in the Pre-National Invitational held at the Lavern Gibson Championship Cross Country Course on Saturday, Oct. 15. Quinnipiac's first appearance in program history at the prestigious event allows the Bobcats a chance to race at the site of the 2016 NCAA Championships.
