HAMDEN, Connecticut – Quinnipiac Acrobatics and Tumbling head coach Mary Ann Powers has announced the addition of former student-athletes Aleshia Ceste and Demitra Germanakos as assistant coaches for the 2016-17 season.
"It is with pride on behalf of our sport and University that Aleshia and Demi were provided a genuine opportunity as student-athletes at Quinnipiac," Powers said. "Demi and Aleshia have made significant contributions as student-athletes, not only in their sport, but in the classroom and in the community. There is no doubt in my mind that they will have a positive impact on the women we coach and the growth of opportunities in the sport."
Ceste and Germanakos were all four-year letter winners with the Bobcats beginning in 2012-13 when Quinnipiac advanced to the National Championship match against Oregon. The duo have been at the forefront of the most significant period of growth in the sport's history as the Bobcats advanced to the NCATA National Semifinals in three of the four seasons in which they competed. In addition, Germanakos and Ceste were both part of the Pyramid team that won four-straight NCATA National Individual Championships.
Germanakos served as a captain for the 2015-16 in which Quinnipiac advanced to the NCATA National Tournament semifinals. Ceste was also named the team's Most Valuable Player for the 2015-16 season. The two also played an integral part in the Pyramid round of the Bobcats' NCATA Tournament win against Fairmont State that propelled Quinnipiac to the national semifinals for the third time in four seasons.
Both coaches were scholar athletes at Quinnipiac, with Ceste earning a bachelor's degree in public relations while Germanakos graduated with a degree in sociology.
