QU Women's Volleyball Drops Home Opener to St. Francis Brooklyn on Wednesday Night

Hamden, Conn. – In their 2015 home opener, the Quinnipiac women's volleyball team fell to St. Francis Brooklyn in straight sets. The Terriers took the first three sets (23-25, 20-25, 18-25) to improve to 2-13 on the year while the Bobcats dropped to 1-12 and 0-1 on Burt Kahn Court.
Sophomore Elizabeth Kloos (Munster, Indiana) led Quinnipiac with 14 kills to tie her season high, hitting at a game high .571 clip. The middle hitter also added two total blocks and a service ace.
Freshman Kat Miller (Collegeville, Pennsylvania) led both sides with 20 assists while adding seven digs to her day. Outside hitter Chandler Thornton Arlington, Texas) recorded 12 digs on the defensive end to lead each team.
The Terriers just barely edged the Bobcats in the first set, 25-23. Saint Francis registered 13 kills and a .250 hitting percentage to the Bobcats' 14 and .241.
Kloos tallied five kills and sophomore Jamie Termotto (Smithtown, New York) added four in the opening set.
Trailing 17-21, Quinnipiac went on a 6-2 run to tie the game at 23 all. The Bobcats slammed three kills in the stretch, one from Termotto and two off swings from outside hitter Katie Urycki (Chesterton, Indiana). The Terriers finished off the set with two straight points.
In the second set, St. Francis posted 13 kills to just one error on 28 attacks with a .429 hitting percentage. Quinnipiac registered 15 kills, but had nine errors on 35 attacks, falling 20-25 in the frame.
Thorton tallied five digs while Kloos and Termotto each recorded four kills in the set.
After falling behind by seven, Quinnipiac went on a short run and cut the opposition's lead to three late in the match. Leading 23-20, St. Francis took a 2-0 set advantage off a kill and Bobcat attack error.
The Terriers closed out the match with a 25-18 victory in the third set. Miller contributed eight assists in the final set while Kloos added five more kills to her total. Thornton came out strong defensively in the frame, recording seven digs and a block.
SFC went on a 9-1 run late in the final set, but Quinnipiac responded with four straight points of their own. QU scored off two SFC errors, a Kloos ace and a kill by Thornton. The Terriers bounced back though, ending the match with three of the next four points.
The Bobcats resume MAAC play on Saturday, September 26 when they visit the Fairfield Stags at 1 p.m.
