ANNAPOLIS, Maryland – The Quinnipiac University women's golf team was led by freshmen Luciana Tobia (La Paz, Boliva) and Caitlan Blydenburgh (Castleton, New York) – both of whom placed in the top 20 – at Navy's Chesapeake Bay Invitational at the United States Naval Academy Golf Course in Annapolis, Maryland.
Tobia finished in seventh place with a two-round total of 152 (75-77) in her first collegiate competition. Tobia's first round 75 is the sixth best 18-hole score in Quinnipiac history while her 152 is the fourth-best 36-hole score in school history and the top score by a freshman since Nicole Scola shot a 149 (+7) at last year's Yale Women's Fall Invitational on Sept. 26, 2014.
Blydenburgh shot a 78 for the first round before carding a 79 for the second round to finish the first day with a 157 for a tie of 20th place. It marked the first time in program history that Quinnipiac featured a line-up with two freshmen finish in the top 20 after the first day of play.
Classmate Julia Kemmling (Berlin, Connecticut) shot an 82 over the first 18 holes before turning in an 84 for the nightcap for a combined 166.
Emily Ribbins (Grand Cayman, Cayman Islands) finished tied for 52nd with a 172 (84-88). Taylor Lambrou (Baldwin, New York) opened with a 91 before shedding seven strokes for an 84 down the stretch. Freshman Abby Chase (Beaver Dam, Wisconsin) – playing as an individual – finished two strokes ahead of Lambrou with a 172 (84-88).
Quinnipiac returns to action with the final 18 holes of the 54-hole Chesapeake Bay Invitational on Sunday, Sept. 21, 2015.
