HAMDEN, Conn. – The Quinnipiac men's tennis team picked up its second consecutive 7-0 sweep of the week as the Bobcats won every single match against the Fordham Rams on Senior Day at the QU Outdoor Tennis Courts.
Eric Ambrosio (Lloyd Harbor, New York) celebrated Senior Day in style as he picked up two more victories to tie James Kwei '12 for the second most wins in Quinnipiac men's tennis program history. Ambrosio needs 10 more wins to tie John Hughes '10 for the program record for wins with 137. Ambrosio has also won eight consecutive matches for the Bobcats and has not lost a match since March 29 at St. Bonaventure.
Sebastian Barbero (Buenos Aires, Argentina) also picked up a pair of victories in the sweep for the Bobcats as he reached the 75 win mark with his two wins.
The Bobcats improved to 9-7 as they won their fourth straight match of the season, and third sweep of that winning streak, while the Rams drop to 3-10 with the loss.
The Bobcats took all three doubles matches for the second consecutive match as they swept the Rams. Ambrosio and van Biezen were the first pair done for the Bobcats as they knocked off Pedro Alonso and Joseph Kavaloski, 8-2. No. 3 and No. 1 doubles finished close to each other, as Barbero and Fernandez came from behind to defeat Joey Brander and Harris Durkovic, 8-6, in No. 3 doubles. With the doubles point secured, Kuwert and Roser finished up their match with an 8-5 victory over Pol Giraldez and Max Peara in No. 1 doubles just moments after the point was won.
With the doubles win, van Biezen picks up his 25th victory of the season as he improves his individual record to 25-9.
Barbero was the first match completed in singles play as he only gave up a single point to Brander, 6-1, 6-0. Ben Teicher (Kendall Park, New Jersey) was the second Bobcat off the court as he competed in his third dual match of the season, cruising past Durkovic, 6-2, 6-1. With the Bobcats up 3-0 in the match, Kuwert secured the match win for the Bobcats with a 6-3, 6-2 win over Giraldez. Ambrosio followed shortly after Kuwert with a 6-0, 6-3 win over Alonso. Kyle Alper (Dix Hills, New York) gave the Bobcats a 6-0 lead after his straight-set win over Kavaloski, 6-2, 6-4.
