
QU Men's Tennis Cruises to 7-0 Sweep of Rider, Improve to 4-0 in MAAC Play

HAMDEN, Conn. – The Quinnipiac men's tennis team picked up its fourth MAAC victory as they surpassed their 2013-14 conference and overall win total with a 7-0 sweep of the Rider Broncs Saturday afternoon at the QU Outdoor Tennis Courts.
With the sweep, Quinnipiac improves to 8-7 (4-0 MAAC) this season with its fifth 7-0 sweep of the season while Rider drops to 1-15 (0-5 MAAC). Last season, the Bobcats finished 7-11 and 3-4 in the MAAC and their four conference victories this season are tied for the most conference wins since the 2012-13 season.
The Bobcats won every single match on the afternoon as they cruised to the big conference victory. Eric Ambrosio (Lloyd Harbor, New York) won his 125th career match as he moved closer to second in program history in career wins, trailing James Kwei's 127 career wins.
Jonas Kuwert (Jesteberg, Germany) and Luke Roser (Bernardsville, New Jersey) defeated Chris Popso and Adam Levi, 8-1, as Kei Ezaka (Ojai, California) and Sebastian Barbero (Buenos Aires, Argentina) teamed up to take down Ahmed Al-Shawafi and Chanton Phan, 8-2. In No. 3 doubles, Eric Ambrosio (Lloyd Harbor, New York) and Willem van Biezen (Warmond, The Netherlands) continued to play well together as they eased to an 8-1 win over Matthew Begley and Agaazi Berhane.
Singles was much of the same domination for the Bobcats as they cruised to all six points in the match in straight sets. Kuwert moved up to No. 1 singles and knocked off Phan, 6-4, 6-0 and Ambrosio defeated Popso, 6-3, 6-2. Rozenstein slotted in for No. 3 singles as he beat Al-Shawafi, 6-3, 6-0. Roser held Levi to just a pair of points in the two set match, winning 6-1, 6-1. Alper continued his singles dominance with a 6-1, 6-2 victory and van Biezen rounded out the dominating day for the Bobcats with a 6-0, 6-1 victory over Berhane.

The Bobcats will finish off the week on Sunday, April 12 at 9 A.M. when they host the Fordham Rams for Senior Day, where seniors Ambrosio and Barbero will be honored with a ceremony beginning at 8:30 A.M.
