HAMDEN, Conn. – The Quinnipiac University women's rugby team will travel to Providence, Rhode Island on Saturday, April 11 for a tournament at Brown University. The Bobcats will be one of six teams competing in the rugby 7's competition this weekend at the Erickson Athletic Complex.
Joining Quinnipiac in Rhode Island will be Army, Bowdoin, Brown, Harvard and Norwich. Each school will divide themselves into an A-side and B-side for the tournament. Both sides will play at least four games before seeds are decided. The tournament will begin at 1 p.m. with Quinnipiac taking on the Norwich Cadets. The Bobcats will then play Brown at 2 p.m. followed by games with Harvard and Bowdoin. QU will finish play with both sides competing against Army before pool play ends and the final seeds are decided.
The competition will mark the first official all NCAA team tournament for women's rugby. Quinnipiac will compete in rugby 7's for the second time this year after playing Harvard last weekend. Rugby 7's is a bit different than the normal 15 on 15 games that QU plays during the fall season. In this type of rugby action, the game consists of seven vs. seven for two seven minute long halves.
Last weekend, Quinnipiac hosted the Harvard Crimson for a series of games in honor of Austin Hill. The two teams competed in three different games while each team was split into two sides. The Bobcats' A-side finished the day 2-0 with wins of 27-21 and 46-5. Quinnipiac's B-side won its lone game, 39-0.
