QU Women's Golf Finish First Two Rounds Of Hoya Invitational In 8th Place Out Of 13 Teams

BEALLSVILLE, MARYLAND - The Quinnipiac University women's golf team finished the first day of the Hoya Invitational in eighth place out of the 13 competing teams at Four Streams Country Club in Beallsville, Maryland.
Georgetown finished the first day of its 10th annual event in first place with a combined 628 (+52), followed by Marshall (633, +57), Youngstown State (639, +63), Loyola (642, +66) and Fairleigh Dickinson (643, +67) to round-out the top five. LIU Brooklyn (650, +74) and Albany (653, +77) slotted in ahead of Quinnipiac (660, +84) who placed ahead of Wagner (679, +102), St. John's (679, +103), Hofstra (689, +113), Hartford (696, +120) and Monmouth (712, +136).
Estefania Morales (Caracas, Venezuela) was the Bobcats' top finisher in a tie for 13th place, slashing her first round total of 82 that placed in 25th place, by four strokes to card a 78 on the second 18 holes of the day to total a 160 (+16) for the day. Morales sits seven strokes behind the leader heading into the final 18 holes.
Morales has shown great improvement over her last 54 holes – including 36 holes at a tri-match on Mar. 12-13 and today's tally at Four Streams. Morales had not shot lower than 87 through six consecutive rounds before a career-best 76 on the first day of the tri-match that she followed with an 82. With her two rounds today at 82 and 78, she is currently averaging 79.50 over her last four rounds. Morales shot an average of 5.13 while finished at +1 on Four Streams' Par 5 scores.
Quinnipiac freshman Nicole Scola (Westerly, Rhode Island) paced the Bobcats with a first-round 78 (+6), but dropped into a tie for 23rd place after shooting an 84 for the second round. Scola was second among the 63 golfers at the event in Par 4 scoring as she averaged 4.20 and was one of three golfers to shoot +4 or lower on Par 4's.
Junior captain Jenn Whaley (Farmington, Connecticut) and Taylor Lambrou (Baldmin, New York) matched each others scores through the first two rounds as both shot an 84 on the first 18 holes and 85 on the second 18 holes. The duo totaled 169 (+25), each, for a tie of 39th place.
Quinnipiac resumes play at Four Streams Country Club on Tuesday, Mar. 31.
