
Carlos Fernandez Wins No. 6 Singles, QU Men's Tennis Falls 6-1 to St. Bonaventure

ST. BONAVENTURE, New York – Carlos Fernandez (Mexico City, Mexico) picked up the lone point for the Quinnipiac men's tennis team Sunday afternoon as the Bobcats fell to the St. Bonaventure Bonnies 6-1 in a non-conference matchup.
The win at No. 6 singles was Fernandez's sixth of the season and seventh overall victory as he surpassed his overall win total from his freshman season with the victory against the Bonnies on Sunday.
Kei Ezaka (Ojai, California) and Ryoma Haraguchi (New York, New York) won their third consecutive doubles match together as they competed at No. 1 doubles for the Bobcats. Ezaka's win was his 27th of the season and 13th in doubles while Haraguchi's was his sixth doubles win and eighth overall.
The Ezaka and Haraguchi pair picked up the lone doubles win for the Bobcats as the Bonnies took the point in the match. Ezaka and Haraguchi took on St. Bonaventure's Eduardo Irizarry and Victor Blanco and doubled them up in the match, 6-3.
St. Bonaventure took the point with wins at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles. Sebastian Barbero (Buenos Aires, Argentina) and Julian Rozenstein (Marlboro, New Jersey) teamed up for the first time this season and nearly came away with a win over Hector Martinez and Andrew Blair but fell, 6-4. Kyle Alper (Dix Hills, New York) and Willem van Biezen (Warmond, The Netherlands) teamed up for the eighth time this season fell to Trevor Haskell and TJ DeSanto, 6-3, and are now 4-4 together this season.
Fernandez took the only singles point at No. 6 singles as he battled and came back from losing the first set to Carlos de La Cruz to come back and take the next two, 3-6, 6-4, 10-7. Overall, four of the six matches went to a third set, with the Bonnies taking three of the matches. Barbero lost a highly contested matchup with Haskell as he took the first set in a tiebreaker but lost the third in a tiebreaker, 6-7 (5), 6-3, 7-6 (6). In No. 3 singles, van Biezen lost the first set but came back to win the second set before losing the third set to Martinez, 6-3, 4-6, 6-4. Ezaka took the court at No. 1 singles and also nearly came away with the win but came up short to Irizarry, 7-5, 3-6, 6-3.
The other two singles matches went to two sets as the Bonnies took each of those to secure the match victory. Haraguchi took the court in singles for the first time in a dual match, where he forced the first set to a tiebreaker but fell to Blanco, 7-6 (4), 6-3. Ambrosio competed at No. 2 singles for the Bobcats but fell to St. Bonaventure's Blair, 6-4, 6-3, in the final singles match of the day.

The Quinnipiac men's tennis team will wrap up its three game road trip on Wednesday when it travels to Fairfield, Connecticut to take on the Sacred Heart Pioneers at the Pioneer Tennis Courts with the match set to begin at 3:30 P.M.
