DAYTONA BEACH, Florida – The Quinnipiac University women's golf team finished tied for 8th out of 14 teams at the Lonnie Barton Invitational at LPGA International in Daytona Beach, Florida. Quinnipiac shaved two strokes off their first day total to move up three spots on the team leaderboard.
Nicola Scola (Westerly, Rhode Island) improved on her first-day score by six strokes to move up 19 spots in the final standings. Scola shot an 82 on Monday, but bounced back with a 76 on Tuesday to finished with a +14, 158 for a tie of 16th place.
"Overall I was satisfied with today," head coach John O'Connor said. "I was very happy that Nicole Scola was able to improve the way she did. She's an extremely competitive golfer, and I'm very happy she improved. I expect great things from her this season."
Emily Ribbins (Grand Cayman, Cayman Islands) followed her first-day 81 with an 80 on Tuesday to finish with a +17, 161 for a tie of 23rd place.
"Emily shooting an 80 was superb," O'Connor said. "She hung in there under conditions that we are not used to it. It was extremely hot today. Sunburnshave gotten to everybody but other than that the conditions were pretty good."
Estefania Morales (Caracas, Venezuala) matched her first-day output with an 87 to finish tied for 56th while junior captain Jenn Whaley (Farmington, Connecticut) finished tied for 40th with a 167.
"We compete again on Thursday," O'Connor explained. "So tomorrow, we'll be working on the driving range and putting green and hopefully make some improvements for the next tournament."
The Bobcats resume play with a tri-match against Delaware State and Fairfield at Victoria Hills Golf Course in Deland, Florida on Mar. 12-13.
