
Sydney Young and Rachel Horton Win in Doubles but QU Women's Tennis Falls to UMass, 7-0

AMHERST, Massachusetts – Sydney Young (Austin, Texas) and Rachel Horton (Stamford, Connecticut) picked up a doubles match victory but the Quinnipiac women's tennis team was swept by the University of Massachusetts Minutewomen, 7-0 Saturday afternoon at the Bay Road Tennis Club.
The match was Horton's first of the season as she picked up the doubles victory, and Young earned her first win of the spring. The duo defeated UMass' Anna Woosley and Chanel Glasper, 6-4, in the No. 2 doubles match. Horton picked up her 20th career victory as a Bobcat, and her 15th doubles win with the victory Saturday.
UMass ultimately took the doubles point; however, as the Minutewomen won the No. 1 and No. 3 doubles matches. Ana Yrazusta and Carol Benito of the Minutewomen took on Jacqueline Raynor (Garden City, New York) and Michelle Dassa (Marlboro, New Jersey) of the Bobcats and after a lengthy matchup, the UMass pair survived in the tiebreaker set; 7-6 (2). UMass' Arielle Griffin and Brittany Collens competed in No. 3 doubles against Sophia Dzulynsky (Miramar, Florida) and Ariana Launie (Milton, Massachusetts), and the Minutewomen picked up the 6-4 win to earn the doubles point.
The Minutewomen swept the Bobcats in singles, taking all six points on the afternoon. Launie and Collens had the most challenging battle of singles at No. 6, but Collens was able to sneak past Launie in a lengthy matchup; 7-6 (4), 6-4. Dzulynsky took on Yrazusta in No. 1 singles and fell; 6-4, 6-0. Raynor competed in No. 2 singles for the Bobcats but lost her matchup with Griffin; 6-1, 6-1. In No. 3 singles, Young competed against Woosley but lost in her matchup; 6-0, 6-1. Horton competed in her first singles match of the season as well at No. 4 singles and lost to Benito; 6-1, 6-3. In No. 5 singles, Dassa fell to Glasper after battling in the second set; 6-0, 6-4.

The Bobcats will return to the courts in two weeks when they will face the Saint Peter's Peacocks in a MAAC matchup on Feb. 22 at the SPU Tennis Courts at 1 P.M.
